NBC‘s new show Bent is running through tricky ground, and the always dangerous spring premiere won’t help. Among other stumbling blocks, like David Walton bring fresh from a very strong show that didn’t make it, Bent has a premise that doesn’t lend itself well to a clear idea of where things are going, and is another in the long line of recent sitcoms with titles that make no sense.

David Walton is Pete, a screw-up, more or less, surfer, and contractor, who manages to land the job remodeling Alex’ (Amanda Peet) house. Alex is a high-strung, type-a who is raising her daughter alone, now that her husband has landed in prison for insider trading.

Good, bad, or indifferent (and it’s pretty good really), that’s a setup that leaves a viewer with an uncertainty that may not bode well for the show’s future. Contractor jokes aside, »
