One-time U.S. presidential hopeful Donald Trump is heading to Washington, D.C. permanently - he has been tapped to convert the city's historic post office into a luxury hotel.

The reality TV star, who recently decided against joining the race for the White House, has won the rights to take over the Old Post Office, which is currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The real estate mogul will team up with his daughter Ivanka Trump and bosses at Colony Capitol to turn the building into a high-end destination complete with 250 hotel rooms, a conference space, a spa, restaurants and a museum.

Ivanka, Vice President of the Trump Organization, tells The Washington Post, "The Trump Organization is committed to making this the finest luxury hotel in the world and we think the building’s location and historic nature will allow us to do that. I think the historic facade of the building will be the greatest signage of all."

The hotel is slated to open in 2016.
