Robert Rodriguez’s next film will be Machete Kills, a sequel to his 2010 Grindhouse B-movie starring Danny Trejo that will shoot in April, according to Deadline.

Kyle Ward (writer of in-development Kane & Lynch) has completed the follow-up screenplay that he has been developing with Rodriguez & Marcel Rodriguez, with Trejo in talks to reprise the R-rated title character.

“The fan response to the Machete character has been fanatical since his first appearance,” Rodriguez said. “Machete is truly a super hero and Machete Kills will be bigger and more ambitious than the first time.”

The sequel will find Machete hired by the U.S. government and ordered to travel down to Mexico to battle a madman cartel and eccentric billionaire arms dealer who wants to start World War III. Sounds like a plot for a James Bond movie and wouldn’t you know it, just like Moonraker took James Bond into space, »
