Newly-engaged Drew Barrymore is taking cookery lessons because she's tired of her lack of kitchen skills.

The Charlie's Angels star admits she couldn't even manage the most basic task before she signed on for the new course - and now she's gradually getting better.

Appearing on the Ellen DeGeneres Show in America on Wednesday, the actress revealed, "I have never been able to make toast or boil water or, like, make eggs and if I ever dared to serve anything people had upset looks on their faces. It was clear that everything I touched in the kitchen was, like, toxic.

"All of a sudden I'm seeing pleasant faces. I'm totally into soups and I'm super into, like, one-pot meals."

However, not all her efforts are a hit: "I tried to make a Thai yellow curry (and) it was awful, but I did rock sour cream pancakes the other day and they were really good."
