Apparently, 20th Century Fox is monkeying around with the Oscars in two categories: Fox is conducting an Oscar campaign for Andy Serkis for Best Actor after playing the first animal protagonist in a live-action film, and that role was Caesar in the box-office hit Rise of the Planet of the Apes co-starring James Franco and Freida Pinto. I do hope Andy does get the Oscar. Recognition should also go to the other ape actors for playing these smarter than average simians: Terry Notary who played chimps Rocket and Bright Eyes, Karin Konoval as Maurice the orangutan, Richard Ridings as Buck the gorilla, and Christopher Gordon as Koba the bonobo. The studio is also campaigning for an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. Rise of the Planet of the Apes is exceptional for bringing motion capture actors in real world settings instead of being inside a motion capture volume. by guest blogger Eric M. »
