Lindsay Lohan's apology gift of cupcakes was turned away from the Los Angeles County Morgue on Friday, because the actress' community service bosses felt it was "unacceptable" for staff to munch delicious treats inches from dead bodies.

The Mean Girls star began her court-ordered service at the morgue a day late on Friday morning, after she was turned away on Thursday for arriving at the wrong entrance, and thought it would be a nice gesture to say hello with cupcakes.

Unfortunately, Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter didn't agree - and he insisted the delivery guy was turned away.

Winter tells TMZ.com, "It's unacceptable. We're not here to accept food."

Lohan's representative says, "Lindsay asked her assistant to pick up lunches from the In-And-Out (fast food chain) in Huntington Park around 10:30 a.m. Around 11:00 a.m., her assistant returned with the lunches and brought them into the administrative trailer and set the food on a table for the volunteers to eat on their break.

"Additionally, Lindsay ordered cupcakes for the staff and volunteers. When they were delivered, morgue supervisors would not let them into the building.

"It is unfortunate that Lindsay's well-intentioned actions were not taken in the spirit in which she intended; to say she was sorry for yesterday's misunderstanding."
