Avant que Joe Johnston ne devienne réalisateur (Jumanji, Wolfman, Captain America) il a passé des années à apprendre le métier en travaillant avec George Lucas. En tant qu'artiste concepteur et technicien des effets spéciaux, il collabora à la première trilogie Star Wars.
Par la suite, il peaufina son art et décrocha l'Oscar des meilleurs effets spéciaux pour Indiana Jones et les Aventuriers de l'Arche Perdue. Il y a plus de dix ans, Joe Johnson a collaboré avec George Lucas et codirigé The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones: Spring Break Adventure et aujourd'hui il semble décidé à ressortir encore quelque chose des tiroirs de LucasFilm. Joe Johnston tente de convaincre Lucas de développer un film centré sur le personnage Boba Fett de la saga Star Wars.
