Brooke Shields feared she would be fired from her new Broadway show after she cursed at the Tony Awards.

The actress is set to take the stage as Morticia in The Addams Family next week, but, after forgetting the words to a comedy musical number during the Tony Awards telecast and subsequently swearing on national television, she admits she thought producers might reconsider her for the part in the family stageshow.

She says, "I had some explaining to do that day! We had no rehearsal. And so I had memorised it (song). And then I was looking, they had a monitor and a teleprompter, which was going differently than what I was saying. So I thought I was having a stroke...

"Literally, I started texting my husband and I said, 'I think I'm dying, something's happening.' And he said, 'Well, just go up onstage after and get bleeped. If you get bleeped it will be a bigger story than you messing up on the Tony's.'"

Shields took her husband's advice but later second guessed her decision, hoping the mess-up didn't come off in poor taste.

She adds, "I said (to my husband), 'They are going to fire me from The Addams Family!' They are going to say, 'Oh we made a huge mistake.'"
