Gerard Butler showed off his Scottish roots at the premiere of his latest film Law Abiding Citizen on Sunday night - wearing a traditional kilt on the red carpet.

The star, who plays a man intent on avenging the murder of his family in the new thriller, turned out for the movie's official European launch in his native Glasgow.

And Butler made the premiere a family event - his proud mum Margaret was on his arm and the star invited more than 70 of his relatives and friends to the bash.

He says, “It’s been extra special here tonight. It was a big wave that hit me as I got out of the car. There was a lot of noise. To be able to come back to Glasgow and see that amount of people outside… you can’t ask for more than that.

"I used to joke that Glasgow was the one place I could come where I wasn't recognised - or at least didn't attract the same level of interest as elsewhere. This is something else - but it's lovely." »
