Comedian Katt Williams has been released from jail after he was arrested and accused of breaking into a friend's Georgia home.

The funnyman insists he's innocent, despite a police report which suggests the star used a crowbar to break into music mogul Barry Hankerson's rural mansion.

Williams' lawyer claims the comedian has been a guest at Hankerson's home for the past month.

The comic was released from the Coweta County jail in Georgia after posting $40,000 (£25,000) bail on Monday night.

Williams denies reports he stole jewellery and collectible coins from Hankerson.

His lawyer insists his client had argued with an employee at Hankerson's horse farm, and he had called the police with a burglary report.

Hankerson spoke with investigators on Monday to assure them that Williams had permission to stay indefinitely in the home he was accused of burglarising.

Alan Clarke, a Georgia attorney who represented Williams in court on Monday, says, "This is a misunderstanding which will work out quickly."
