In Bryan Singer's Superman Returns, the hero mysteriously vanished from Earth for five years - and it looks as though he'll be gone from the big screen for just as long.

A new list by Variety of upcoming Warner Bros blockbusters, between now and the end of 2011, makes no mention of a further Superman adventure.

And in the recent court case over the rights to the character, Warner chairman Alan Horn admitted no film was in development, no script had been written and that the earliest another Superman film could be released would be 2012.

But lawyers warned that a failure to produce a film by 2011 would mean the heirs of co-creator Jerry Siegel could sue Warner Bros for damages.

So what's the delay? Well, the court papers from the lawsuit state that the character is seen as "uncool" and "damaged goods". Is this true and what can be done about this? »
