Hollywood actor Brad Pitt has spoken of his shock over the recent terrorist attacks in India - as he and his partner Angelina Jolie once stayed in one of the hotels which was targeted.

Nearly 200 people were killed and hundreds injured in a series of attacks that began last Wednesday, with militants targeting hotels and tourist spots across the city of Mumbai.

And Pitt admits that watching the horrific events unfold on TV was even more poignant for the couple - as they had previously stayed at the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower hotel, the building at the centre of a 60-hour siege which saw the venue engulfed in flames and gun fire.

Pitt tells U.S. talkshow host Larry King, "We stayed in the Taj and we saw the room we stayed in was on fire. I can't begin to make any sense of it but I'm sure they are doing their best to uncover what was at the base of it.

"It's an incredible building. It was incredible - India itself is one of the most amazing countries that I've ever been to. Everyone should be so fortunate to get to explore it. It's also suffered from inefficiency in a strange way and a great gulf between the rich and the poor there that needs to be addressed there."
