Producer/director Geoffrey Gilmore will be honoured in a tribute this month, aligning his film career to veteran director Sydney Pollack.

Gilmore has been honoured with the American Cinematheque's inaugural Sydney Pollack Award after serving on the non-profit organisation's board of directors for 24 years.

A spokesperson for the Cinematheque says the award honours "someone who has been of critical importance and continuing influence in non-profit film exhibition, film preservation and/or independent film promotion and distribution - people whose work Sydney supported and found to be so valuable, who are not often recognised for their efforts."

Gilmore said the award comes from "someone who knows what it means to think about film culture and programming. If I'm good at what I do, a lot came from the education and knowledge I gained working at the Cinematheque all those years."

The Award will be presented on Monday in Los Angeles.
