Rob Pattinson is the envy of Twilight book fans - author Stephenie Meyer gave him an unseen manuscript that details his Edward Cullen character.

The hunky Brit wowed film fans at the weekend, taking the movie adaptation of Meyer's cult book to the top of the U.S. box office, but he admits much of his success as a sullen vampire came from the author's pre-filming gift.

Meyer's book is told from the perspective of her heroine, Bella Swann, and not her vampire boyfriend, Cullen.

But the manuscript she gave Pattinson was all about his character.

He tells Teen magazine, "(The movie) was hopefully more balanced. It definitely did not just come from Bella's perspective - it was an equal relationship.

"It (manuscript) was helpful for me - just the amount of violence that goes through his head, which isn't in (the book) at all, but you can see Edward is completely nuts!"
