NBC News said Thursday that it plans to present "more than 200 total hours of live coverage" of the political conventions during the last week of this month and the first week of next month. It's not that the conventions themselves have been extended to run 24 hours a day -- it's that when the time devoted to them by NBC, MSNBC, CNBC, Telemundo, MSNBC.com and NBC Mobile are added up, the total coverage amounts to 200 hours. In a statement, NBC News President Steve Capus said, "These are the stories that we live for at NBC News. Across all our platforms, we are offering an unprecedented amount of convention coverage, and we stand ready to field an incredibly talented, and deeply knowledgeable team." Convention coverage on NBC will be anchored by Brian Williams; on MSNBC, by Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews. Tom Brokaw will appear as an analyst on both the broadcast and the cable networks.
