Generous Hollywood supercouple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have donated $1 million (GBP500,000) to help children affected by the war in Iraq.

The couple's Jolie-Pitt Foundation gave $500,000 (GBP250,000) to three separate groups in the war-torn country, which will go towards helping increase the educational support for 5,700 children, says the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, of which Jolie is a boardmember.

The stars also gave another $500,000 (GBP250,000) to provide aid for the children of military personnel and soldiers who have died in the on-going conflict.

The cash will go towards basic educational supplies for Iraqi schoolchildren, and the money in the U.S. will be put towards hiring tutors and providing counseling for 2,500 American kids.

The superstar pair have given away millions to charity in recent years, including raising funds for the survivors of 2005's Hurricane Katrina and relief in war-torn Darfur region of Sudan.

Jolie is also a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations.
