Thanks largely to the strong one-two punch from 20th Century Fox's Man on Fire and Sony's 13 Going on 30, the boxoffice in North America racked up some stout returns during the weekend. Man on Fire, an action-thriller starring Denzel Washington and helmed by Tony Scott, kindled $22.8 million on its debut, while 13 Going on 30, which marked Jennifer Garner's first starring role, opened with $21.1 million. Setting a new precedent, it was the first time in April that two films grossed more than $20 million each during the same weekend. Altogether, the 121 films tracked by The Hollywood Reporter generated $98.4 million at the boxoffice, up 7% from the comparable weekend a year ago.
