Hollywood comedienne and former chat-show host Rosie O'Donnell is preparing to take the witness stand in a multi-million-dollar trial with publishing company Gruner+Jahr USA. The dispute concerns the apportioning of blame over the failure of her magazine Rosie a year ago, O'Donnell contends she left the magazine that September because G+J denied her promised editorial control, whereas they counter she was an unprofessional manager who broke her contract. G+J is seeking $100 million from O'Donnell. She wants $125 million in a countersuit. A key element to the trial at State Supreme Court, Manhattan, New York, which kicked off yesterday, is thought to be how the magazine reports its circulation figures. O'Donnell's lawyers are expected to claim G+J purposely overstated its subscriber base to make the magazine seem more financially sound than it was. The League Of Their Own star's contract contained a clause allowing her to walk away from the magazine if it posted high losses.
