While New Line reps adamantly claim that no sequel deal is yet in place, sources say that Mike Myers is very close to signing a deal to play British superspy Austin Powers for a third time with a payday of $25 million up front against 21% of the gross. With the last film, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, grossing over $300 million worldwide, this could be a significantly huge payday for Myers. Negotiations are also underway for director Jay Roach to return as well as for Shagged co-writer Mike McCullers. No story or script is yet in place, but it is reported that the three will get to work on developing the project as soon as their deals are worked out. Myers is also tapped for a possible Pink Panther remake and has a project under development with a new character, leaving the timing of the next Powers sequel in question.
