The Truth Behind the Infamous 2000 Oscar Heist
You may recall the story, but you don't know the punchline. In March 2000, 55 Oscars were stolen from a loading dock in an L.A. suburb just weeks before the 72nd Academy Awards ceremony. The disappearance of so many iconic statuettes caused a media frenzy, and a public response came fast. R.S. But despite female-centered hits like “Hidden Figures,” “Ghostbusters” and “Bad Moms,” only 32 percent of the 2,595 female characters actually had speaking roles, down 1 percentage point from 2015.
