Competition Will be Stiff for New Releases With 'Jumanji' Set to Remain #1

Competition Will be Stiff for New Releases With 'Jumanji' Set to Remain #1
This weekend sees Warner Bros.'s 12 Strong and STX's R-rated heist thriller Den of Thieves hitting theaters, both of which are targeting male audiences, which means they'll also have to contend with the NFL conference championship games this Sunday. Additionally, a couple of notable expansions are taking place this weekend along with Roadside's moderate release of Forever My Girl. That being said, all appear as if they'll be settling in behind last weekend's #1 and #2 films, as Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and The Post are expected to hold on to those top two spots. Jumanji topped last weekend's box office after dropping just 24.5%, and this weekend it should continue to hold on rather well. While we're currently anticipating a drop around 32% and a fifth weekend around $19 million, don't be surprised if it hangs on a little better than that. The film should top $315 million domestically by end of day Sunday,

‘Justice League’ Blu-Ray Details and Box Art Revealed; No Zack Snyder Cut

‘Justice League’ Blu-Ray Details and Box Art Revealed; No Zack Snyder Cut
Fans clamoring to see the non-existent Zack Snyder cut of Justice League will be bummed to discover that Snyder’s iteration of the film, which almost certainly was never finalized, is not included on the home video release. Indeed, the Justice League Blu-ray details include a bunch of behind-the-scenes featurettes, but really nothing substantial to speak of. Unsurprisingly there’s no director’s commentary, no extended cut, and only a single deleted scene: “The Return of Superman.” While it’s true that Zack Snyder traditionally creates director’s extended cuts of his films—and the extended …

Box Office Preview: '12 Strong' To Challenge 'Jumanji's' Reign

Box Office Preview: '12 Strong' To Challenge 'Jumanji's' Reign
As the family-friendly fantasy film Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle attempts to hang on to the top spot at the domestic box office for the third weekend in a row, it is facing off against a challenge from 12 Strong, which follows a Special Forces team into battle in Afghanistan in the wake of 9/11. Both films could take in about $15 million or more before the dust settles.

So far, Sony’s Jumanji has proven to be unexpectedly resilient. In both its third and fourth weekends it fell by just 25 percent during each frame. The fall-off is expected to...

EuropaCorp Being Circled By Potential Buyers, Investors (Exclusive)

EuropaCorp Being Circled By Potential Buyers, Investors (Exclusive)
Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp is being circled by potential buyers and investors as it struggles to climb out from under a mountain of debt. Among the suitors, sources say, is business tycoon Tarak Ben Ammar, a shareholder in The Weinstein Co. and a board member of Vivendi.

Hit by the disappointing performance of last year’s “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets,” EuropaCorp has directed its primary lender, JP Morgan, to find someone who can inject equity capital into the company, as well restructure and pay a portion of its debt. Several well-informed sources tell Variety that the company urgently needs to find a solid partner by March 30, which marks the end of its financial year. The company’s market capitalization fell to €57.4 million ($70.2 million) as of Thursday, while losses reached €119.9 million ($146.8 million) and its net debt skyrocketed to €230 million ($281.6 million) as of September.

JP Morgan currently holds EuropaCorp’s assets, including its valuable

‘Super Troopers 2’ Nsfw Trailer: The Highway Patrol Goes To Canada, Eh?

Seventeen years ago, which I was a much younger person, I thought “Super Troopers” was pretty funny. I’m sure if I watched it now I’d have some nostalgic chuckles, but I’m not that misty-eyed for the comedy to really feel any excitement for the sequel. But for those who are ready to get back with the gang, it looks like that for better or worse, “Super Troopers 2” is bringing back the exact same brand of laughs you enjoyed all those years again.

Gaumont Leaps Into Comicbook-Based ‘Tricky Old Dogs’ (Exclusive)

Gaumont has boarded Christophe Duthuron’s “Tricky Old Dogs,” a feel-good comedy based on Wilfrid Lupano and Paul Cauuet’s popular French comicbook “Les vieux fourneaux.”

“Les vieux fourneaux,” which has sold over 1 million copies in France and has been translated into six languages, follows the adventures of Antoine, Emile et Pierrot, three elderly men who have been friends forever in spite of going different paths.

The comic book reminisces the ups and downs of this lively friendship from the 1960’s to the middle of the years 2010’s. The graphic novel also tells with a tragicomic tone social, political and cultural upheavals and crisis.

Gaumont’s movie will follow three politically-incorrect and endearing pensioners who embark on a colorful road trip from France to Tuscany. Pierre Richard (“Mrs. Stein Goes Online”), a veteran comedy actor in France, will star opposite Eddie Mitchell (“Populaire”) and Alice Pol (“R.A.I.D.: Special Unit”).
