Marvel's making like a kid loaded with candy, aren't they? Their slate takes them all the way to 2015's double-fisting of "The Avengers 2" on May 1st and "Ant-Man" that November 6th. Speaking to MTV recently, Kevin Feige revealed that the Edgar Wright-directed "Ant-Man," which will have been in development for eleven years by the time the film hits the screens, will launch what the company considers "Phase Three." "I've known Edgar since our first lunch together at Comic-Con in 2004," Feige revealed. "He asked me what Marvel was doing with 'Ant-Man' — we weren't even a studio then; what a difference eight years makes! It's very much an 'Ant-Man' origin movie from the perspective of Edgar Wright and his co-writer Joe Cornish. It will of course be firmly planted in the McU, but a different corner than we've seen before." And while it's been a long time coming, »

Even though we're nearly three months removed from Halloween, I want to use this week's opening paragraph to throw some support behind director Michael Stephenson's touching documentary, The American Scream. I recently caught the film via Netflix where it's available to "Watch Instantly" and I was impressed to say the least. Stephenson's previous entry, the indelible Best Worst Movie, quickly became one of my all-time favorite docs for the unexpected emotional punch it packed in following the lives of those impacted by Troll 2. Scream delivered on a similar level with its themes of family, community, and the pursuit of one's passion (in this case, home haunting). If you haven't seen it already, I recommend either checking it out on Netflix or picking up a copy for yourself from the film's website. All recommendations aside, much to the surprise of no one, this week's Top 5 is headlined by the »

Anna Paquin, Ellen Page And Shawn Ashmore To Return For X-Men: Days Of Future Past

It's supposed to be a sleepy Saturday, but it turns out X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer couldn't resist breaking a little news. Returning to the franchise he kicked off with X-Men and X2: X-Men United, Singer is in pre-production on the hotly anticipated sequel, and confirmed today that three familiar faces from his original trilogy will be making a comeback. Here's what he tweeted: Very excited to welcome #annapaquin, @ellenpage & @shawnrashmore to #XMen #DaysofFuturePast - thank you @brettratner for letting them live!. Bryan Singer (@BryanSinger) January 26, 2013 He's thanking Brett Ratner, of course, because he took over the franchise for X-Men 3, and kept all three of those younger X-Men faces in the fold for perhaps this very reason. We've already learned that the new X-Men film will involve time travel, with older versions of the characters traveling back in time to warn their younger selves about a potential »

Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters Take #1 At Friday Box Office

26 January 2013 1:09 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

None of the weekend's new releases got anything even remotely close to good reviews-- the closest is Parker, with a 35% Rotten Tomatoes score-- but the people need something to see, and it seems they've chosen Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. Well, sort of. The R-rated revisionist fairy tale brought in $5.9 million on Friday, on track for a $17 million weekend and first place-- though not nearly the kind of numbers you might expect for something action-packed and in 3D. Coming in behind it wasn't either of the other new releases but Mama, which made $3.8 million and, according to Deadline, will have a total gross of $47.5 million by the end of the weekend. You have to go all the way down to #5 to find the next new release, Jason Statham's Parker, which made $2.1 million, and right behind it is Movie 43, which brought in $1.8 million. That one actually only cost $6 million, »

Daniel Day-Lewis: 'I wouldn't make back-to-back films'

Daniel Day-Lewis has said that he would not want to make back-to-back movies. The actor, who is tipped to win his third Oscar for his turn in Lincoln, told The Sun that he is thankful he does not need to work continuously and can take time between projects. "Some actors work back to back because they have to, and I completely respect that. If financially I found my family needed me to do that then I would find some way of doing it," the 55-year-old said. "Thanks be to God I haven't been put in that position. "I may be very uneasy - truth is I'd probably sooner go and try and find work in the construction crew than make films back to back. "The reason is it would completely destroy my enthusiasm (more) »

Sundance 2013: jOBS Review

26 January 2013 1:05 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

For a movie about a man who championed innovation, Joshua Michael Stern's Steve Jobs biopic, jOBS, is awfully safe and conventional.  By the end of the movie, most viewers will know as much as they previously did about the tech innovator or possibly even less.  Stern and screenwriter Matt Whiteley's depiction of Jobs makes one of the most influential figures in American business seem like nothing more like a savvy salesman who bullied people into following his vision.  Ashton Kutcher's lead performance veers between convincing and distracting, and while Josh Gad impresses as Steve "Woz" Wozniak, jOBS is a bland biopic that never provides any insight into the man behind the Apple. Playing by the standard rise-fall-redemption arc, jOBS begins by showing us Steve Jobs' (Kutcher) presentation of the first iPod in 2001 before cutting back to his college years and showing us his spiritual, free-thinking origins. »

Well, it looks like the gang's all here. Rumors ran rampant that Bryan Singer's "X-Men: Days Of Future Past" would be bringing back a number of the series' more well-known characters, with Hugh Jackman confirmed to appear alongside Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan. But Bryan Singer has confirmed via Twitter that, not only are they looking to bring back as many cast members as possible from the original trilogy, but that Brett Ratner's lambasted "X-Men: The Last Stand" is definitely canon. "Very excited to welcome #annapaquin, @ellenpage & @shawnrashmore to #XMen #DaysOfFuturePast - thank you, @BrettRatner for letting them live!" he tweeted. Anna Paquin and Shawn Ashmore are veterans of the series, having played lovers Rogue and Iceman through the first three movies. Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, and Shawn Ashmore Returning for X-men: Days Of Future Past

26 January 2013 12:51 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

If it wasn’t clear before, it certainly is now: director Bryan Singer is making one incredibly ambitious film with the X-Men: First Class sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past.  In addition to First Class stars Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, and Jennifer Lawrence, we previously learned that X-Men actors Ian McKellan, Patrick Stewart, and Hugh Jackman will be reprising their roles in the upcoming follow-up.  The story involves time travel and alternate realities, so the mixing of the younger actors and older actors fits well within the film’s complex plot. It appears that Singer isn’t simply bringing a few stars from X-Men and X2 back for Days of Future Past, as he revealed on Twitter today that Anna Paquin (Rogue), Ellen Page (Kitty Pryde), and Shawn Ashmore (Iceman) will also be joining the cast of Days of Future Past.  Hit the jump for more. The Sundance Film Festival is finally coming to a close, with the awards ceremony scheduled for tonight and the closing night film, Ashton Kutcher's jOBS, premiering last night. It's finally come time to start taking stock of what we've seen over these breathless 10 days, which we did last night in the Eccles Theater-- the festival's biggest venue-- while waiting for the start of jOBS. Then Patches and I jump in to discuss two of the most interesting and provocative movies we've seen at the film festival-- the surrealist Escape From Tomorrow, shot guerrilla style inside Disney theme parks, and the fact-based drama Fruitvale, about the murder of a young man at a »
