25 February 2013 3:41 PM, PST | FamousMonsters of Filmland | See recent Famous Monsters of Filmland news »

Matthew Vaughn and Mark Millar may be Fox’s answer to Disney and Marvel’s overlord Joss Whedon. Mark Millar has been brought on as a consultant for upcoming adaptations, and Matthew Vaughn has been the one shepherding the new take on X-men, with The First Class and Days Of Future Past. Now, it sounds like he’ll be producing the Fantastic Four reboot as well.

“Just off the phone with Fox and some excellent news…Matthew Vaughn is producing Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four reboot!”

With the guiding hand of Millar, and Vaughn producing both X-Men and Fantastic Four, many wonder if Fox is trying to plan a mini-Marvel universe with crossover potential, a la Avengers. Chronicle’s Josh Trank is directing the film, which is aiming for a March 6th, 2015.

While many fans wish they could all be under one umbrella, the idea of a larger universe at »

Feige On “Captain America: Winter Soldier”: It’s A “Political Thriller”

25 February 2013 3:18 PM, PST | FamousMonsters of Filmland | See recent Famous Monsters of Filmland news »

For those who haven’t read Ed Brubaker’s classic Winter Soldier run (and everyone should), this news might come as more of a surprise, but Marvel Entertainment President discussed the upcoming sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and described the film as a “political thriller.”

The man was discussing whether or not the superheroes were a cinematic fad. He was confident that it’s not; at least not a short term one. Here’s his reasoning:

“If it is a fad, it’s one that lasts 30 to 40 years, as the Western did…because each one is so different. There’s an opportunity to graft almost sub-genres onto them. Our first Captain America film was a World War II picture, and the next is a political thriller. They all have their own textures and patinas, and that’s what is exciting about it.”

Cinematic Spectacle And Nacho Vigalondo's Open Windows

25 February 2013 3:00 PM, PST | Screen Anarchy | See recent Screen Anarchy news »

Back in the late 19th century, in the early years of cinema, purveyors of this new art form would show the spectacle at fairgrounds and carnivals. It was not yet a new mode of storytelling, but a technological wonder. After a time (and in no small part due to the burgeoning urban population fueled by the industrial revolution), cinema moved into proper theatres. With each new technological advancement (sound, colour, etc.), there is a period of wonder, then as audiences adjust, a seemingly natural inclination to want these advancements to serve the narrative. This had been particularly relevant of late, with the return of 3D, the proliferation of IMAX theatres, and the increased use of CGI and digital effects (I won't pretend to be an expert...

Singer Talks About Peter Dinklage’s Role In “X-Men: Days Of Future Past”

25 February 2013 2:36 PM, PST | FamousMonsters of Filmland | See recent Famous Monsters of Filmland news »

There’s been rampant speculation about what role Peter Dinklage will play in X-men: Days Of Future Past. Will he be the dwarf mutant Puck? Will he be Modok? The Watcher? Perhaps someone else villainous?

Here’s what Singer had to say:

“He’s not going to be a CGI character, he’ll be himself. Not that he’ll be playing Peter Dinklage, he’ll be playing this character. It’s not a shy character. He’s just such a phenomenal actor; I’m a huge fan of Peter’s and Game of Thrones. He was my first choice and I was really happy [about the casting]. It’s so funny to talk to him because he does that impeccable accent [on Game of Thrones] and then you talk to him and he’s this guy from New Jersey.”

The smart money has Dinklage playing Bolivar Trask, the creator of the Sentinels, a big part of X-men: Days Of Future Past. »
