The Legend of Hell's Gate: An American Conspiracy (2011)

1 hour ago | Planet Fury | See recent Planet Fury news »

Directed by: Tanner Beard

Written by: Tanner Beard

Starring: Eric Balfour, Lou Taylor Pucci, Tanner Beard, Henry Thomas, Jenna Dewan, Summer Glau, Jamie Thomas King

The subtitle of The Legend of Hell’s Gate is “An American Conspiracy.” A conspiracy usually involves a large cast of characters and, in his feature debut, writer-director-star Tanner Beard draws upon local legends and has cast a legion of mid-level character actors to spin a small-scale oater epic with a proverbial cast of thousands. Beard should be commended for his ambition, but his reach far too often exceeds his grasp.

In 1876 West Texas, former thief turned railworker Jimmy (Beard) arrives in Dallas seeking his fortune and a cure for his toothache, which leads to an encounter with Doc Holliday (Jamie Thomas King) and his befriending of a local prostitute named Katherine (Jenna Dewan of The Playboy Club). Meanwhile, a posse of Confederate veterans turned »

TV Reviews: Game of Thrones, Season 2, Episode 9, “Blackwater”

1 hour ago | FamousMonsters of Filmland | See recent Famous Monsters of Filmland news »

Game of Thrones “Blackwater” Air Date: 5/27/2012

In the penultimate episode of the second season of HBO’s Game Of Thrones, Tyrion Lannister and the lions of King’s Landing must fend off Stannis Baratheon and his soldiers, followers of R’hllor, the lord of light. This is what Game Of Thrones has been building up to all season, and it’s hard to quibble with what we saw on Sunday night.

Neil Marshall (The Descent), a last minute replacement as director, shines in an episode that is practically pitch perfect and features some of the finest moments we’ve seen thus far from the cast. Words can’t help but sound like hyperbole when describing such a superlative group of thespians. It’s Shakespeare with more swear words, nudity and bloodshed.

This episode is owned by four mainstays of the cast: Peter Dinklage as the imp, the halfman, the Tyrion Lannister, »

Footage from Stephanie Meyer’s “The Host”

1 hour ago | FamousMonsters of Filmland | See recent Famous Monsters of Filmland news »

Don’t look now, but another Stephanie Meyer novel is coming to the big screen. When Twilight finishes up its reign of the internet and box office alike in November, die hard fans won’t have to wait too long for another fix. Meyer’s other novel, The Host, adapted by Andrew Niccol (Gattaca), comes out March 29th, 2013 and stars the immensely talented Saoirse Ronan, as a young woman named Melanie who plays host to an alien inside her. She also has feelings for a hunky man, to keep the teen romance angle in there.

Thanks to io9, we have the first footage from the movie, with some soundbites from Ronan, Max Irons (who plays Jared, the preeminent love interest) and Stephanie Meyer herself. There’s really not much here beyond a look at the caves and to delight in Ronan’s awesome accent, but if it’s anything like »

Burton’s “Frankenweenie” One Sheet and Trailer

1 hour ago | FamousMonsters of Filmland | See recent Famous Monsters of Filmland news »

For some die hard fans of Tim Burton, Dark Shadows was not their highly most anticipated Burton film out this year. That honor goes to the stop motion, 3-D tale Frankenweenie, which is set to come out early in the spookiest month of the year, October 5th, 2012. It’s a return to the eerie animation style that delighted audiences with Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride, only this time it’ll be in 3-D. With a cast that features Burton faves like Martin Landau (Ed Wood), Winona Ryder (Edward Scissorhands), Martin Short (Arrested Development, Jungle 2 Jungle) and Catherine O’Hara (Beetlejuice), the story about the reanimated pup named Sparky and his “maker,” Victor is one of the more fun concepts of the year. Dread Central has found a one sheet and a trailer for the upcoming film, which we now share with you.
