In his bid for state Attorney General, George P. Bush puts “Defend Our Law Enforcement” at the heart of his “pro-Texas agenda.” It’s a law-and-order message that has earned him prominent endorsements, including from the National Border Patrol Council.

Bush’s endorsement page also recently included a plug from a top north Texas lawman who insisted Texas “needs a clear leader who backs the blue.” But that official, Sheriff Jeffrey C. Lyde of Clay County, has become notorious in recent days — and his plug has been scrubbed from Bush’s website.

CNN’s Brianna Keilar went after Republican lawmakers Friday morning, particularly those “lining up to kiss Trump’s ring” and ignoring newly revealed concerns by officials that the former president might stage a coup after his election loss.

“This week, we learned some terrible new revelations about the aftermath of the Capitol riots and how concerned lawmakers, military members and members of the Trump administration were that former president Donald Trump might try to overturn the will of the people, hanging onto power,” Keilar said on Friday’s “New Day”. “And this week, we’re seeing Republicans still lining up to kiss Trump’s ring. They’re hoping to keep his approval.”

She singled out House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Texas Attorney General candidate George P. Bush. Days after the deadly Jan. 6 riot, McCarthy said Trump should “bear responsibility” for the insurrection. He has since personally visited Trump twice.

Grandkids, a skydiving demonstration and country star Lyle Lovett headlined the George and Barbara Bush Foundation’s all-day birthday celebration this past Saturday at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Center honoring the foundation’s namesakes 95th and 94th birthdays. The occasion marked the largest gathering of Bush family at the Bush Center since President Bush’s interment on December 6, 2018.

George H.W. Bush, 41st president of the United States, father of the 43rd president, died at age 94 in his Houston home, the family announced in a statement late Friday night. During his presidency, Bush oversaw the end of the Cold War and organized the first Gulf War against Saddam Hussein in Iraq. He also served as vice president to Ronald Reagan and served his country as a Navy aviator in World War II. His death comes months after the April death of his wife of 73 years, Barbara Bush.

Her family had announced Monday that she no longer was seeking medical treatment and had been moved to comfort care.
