Peter Hiscock(II)
Peter Hiscock was born in Melbourne, Australia, on March 27, 1957 to Norma (Powell) and Keith Hiscock. His family moved to Canberra in 1967 and there he developed an interest in history. He completed an undergraduate degree at the Australian National University in Canberra, and then moved to Brisbane to undertake a PhD. Eventually he was also awarded a D.Sc. by the Australian National University. His primary career is as an academic. Peter is the inaugural Tom Austen Brown Professor of Australian Archaeology at the University of Sydney. He is a well known archaeologist and was previously Professor of Archaeology at the Australian National University 2008-2013. He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities, a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London, and a Research Associate of the Australian Museum, Sydney.
He is also known for his publications on cinema, especially discussions of movies containing archaeologists as characters. In the Encyclopedia of Global Archaeology he summarized the image of archaeologists throughout the history of movie making, and in the journal Numen he explored the way Hollywood placed characters in supernatural worlds.
He has appeared in numerous television documentaries and news programs. Additionally he appeared as himself in Beauty and the Geek Australia (Episode #6.3 ).
