Coming out of FrightFest last year, I had heard a lot about co-directing brothers Fionn and Toby Watts’ film Playhouse. They had dropped their Gothic haunted castle movie on the world during last Summer’s digital festival and, for the most part, everything sounded pretty damn positive. Let me tell you, that crowd are die hard with their horror too so you would know if you should give up directing horror and go back to that day job!
I myself am pretty easy going on the horror we Brits put out there, but that’s mostly because we do it better than most (I say most because you can’t beat a good Aussie horror). Especially lately, as many UK filmmakers have been dropping some fantastic scare content. Which meant I was open...

As you will see in the coming months, I have been checking out a lot of action movies recently rather than horror fare; so it became apparent I need to switch lanes for a minute… Hence checking out horror film Playhouse. The Nacelle Company is teaming with Breaker’s Blockchain Entertainment Studio on the release of Antarctica, a romantic comedy written and directed by Keith Bearden. Starring Chloë Levine, Clea Lewis, Damian Young, and newcomer Kimmie Muroya, the pic will be released sometime later this year.
It’s a story of two life-long best friends that experience a tidal wave of adult pressures and problems as they face down their last year of high school in small-town USA. Will they crack under the societal pressures, or will they triumph over the metaphorical icy tundra they call their late teens?
The deal was negotiated by Anna Roberts of The Nacelle Company and Jake Craven of Breaker.

It has been some eight decades since a film was shot in Caithness. Looking at the landscape as captured by brothers Fionn and Toby Watts, it's hard to understand why. The lowering skies, the wind rushing through the wild grass and the dark waves crashing against mighty granite cliffs have endless expressive potential, even before one takes in the looming form of Freswick Castle, built on the site of a bloody Viking siege. This is where the brothers spent their childhood with their writer father, and it's where their deceptively complex, multi-layered début film is set.
We begin with Jack (William Holstead), himself a writer, who has recently moved into the castle with his daughter Bee (the impressive Grace Courtney). Stuck with the wrong parent in the aftermath of divorce, Bee is resentful at being taken away from her friends and her familiar world. Jack seems to resent the interruption of.

Tagline: "Come Play with Us." Playhouse is the debut feature from brothers Fionn and Toby Watts. Together, they have set their film in an old castle, which houses something malevolent. Meanwhile, a horror writer is finding inspiration for a new play, from this evil abode. A Far North Film production, a trailer was released for the film in late 2019. A new trailer was released two months ago (found below) and a new poster is available here. Playhouse features a small cast. Focusing on characters Jack (William Holstead) and Bee Travis (Grace Courtney), the film also stars: Helen Mackay and James Rottger. All of the cast have had to endure the harsh Scottish landscapes as seen in the clip below. Playhouse has not completed production. Represented by Devil Works for a potential worldwide distribution, this horror film will also begin a film festival run this Summer. Fans of indie horror can...
