Marcus Joseph(II)
- Director
- Cinematographer
- Editor
Marcus Joseph is an American director, cinematographer, editor, and colorist. He began filmmaking by opting to do a video project for a book report in 6th grade instead of writing a book report. By 8th grade he was learning rotoscoping and the basics of VFX work. As a junior and senior in high school, he began entering commercial contests. Just after graduating in 2013, his production placed second in an international contest for Lowe's Valspar Paint.
Marcus moved to Utah in 2013 to attend BYU, and between 2014-2017 produced a myriad of works seen by hundreds of millions of people, most notably music videos he either directed or was the cinematographer on. Marcus was mostly the cinematographer, editor, and colorist in collaboration with other directors, but Marcus directed a few on top of doing the cinematography and editing.
Marcus' 2014-2017 style of cinematography contained contrasting, photogenic, vivid colors, as his visuals were driven by his other passion of model photography and magazine-style photographic detailing. Marcus' directing, cinematography, and editing style today has adopted a more true presentation of what is before him, opting for realism as beauty, rather than his previous style of beauty over realism.
The truth of his presentation of reality today is driven by his new-found Christianity, which he grew up with but never really believed in until he began a spiritual journey in 2017, departing from filmmaking for a time and serving a mission, returning in 2021. Marcus is now working on documentaries.
