Leading Black British stars, writers and execs have become the latest to criticize the Labour Party for its controversial mishandling of a row involving the UK’s first ever Black female MP.
Diane Abbott’s return, or departure, from the party she has been an MP for since 1987 has dominated UK front pages over the past week and the likes of Lenny Henry, David Harewood and Afua Hirsch have now had their say.
In a damning open letter titled Loyalty Has Never Been Unconditional, the group of around 40 prominent Black figures said they are “appalled by the Labour Party’s treatment of Diane Abbott,” describing it as “disproportionate, undemocratic and vindictive.”

UK MPs React To Boris Johnson’s Shock Resignation From Parliament – ‘Straight Out Of Trump Playbook’
The reaction to Boris Johnson’s abrupt exit from the UK Parliament where he was previously Prime Minister has been as polarised as you would expect of a politician who, according to his allies remained a unique election-winner and singlehandedly led the nation through Brexit and the Covid pandemic but, to his critics, signified deceit, corruption and all that is wrong with modern politics.
His former Home Secretary Priti Patel – who has been made a Dame in Johnson’s resignation honours list – said:
“Boris Johnson has served our country and his constituency with distinction. He led world in supporting Ukraine, got Brexit done, and was our most electorally successful Prime Minister since Margaret Thatcher. Boris is a political titan whose legacy will stand the test of time.”
And fellow Conservative MP Michael Fabricant, who has been knighted, called his departure:
‘Disgraceful treatment of a political leader who has made world history.

Angela Bassett has revealed that a major scene in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ended up on the cutting room floor.
The actor plays Queen Ramonda, the mother of T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) and Shuri (Letitia Wright), in both Black Panther films, as well as in Avengers: Endgame.
During a recent appearance on Variety’s “Awards Circuit Podcast”, Bassett described a scene that she filmed with co-star Lupita Nyong’o that was ultimately cut in order to create a greater surprise later.
Caution: major spoilers for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever follow!
In the film’s mid-credits scene, a staple of Marvel films, Nakia (played by Nyong’o) introduces Shuri to Touissant (Divine Love Konadu-Sun), her son with the late T’Challa.
However, it was originally planned for the audience to meet Toussaint earlier in the story, when watching Ramonda visit her grandson in Haiti.

Holly Willoughby scolded Lembit Opik on This Morning for “having a go” at Angela Rayner live on-air.
The former politician was invited on the sdaytime show to discuss Matt Hancock’s appearance on I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!, which has prompted conntroversy.
He was joined by deputy Labour leader Rayner, who called former health secretary Hancock’s decision to join the series “offensive” due to the struggles he put people through during the pandemic.
“If you want to be a Member of Parliament, which our job is to represent our constituents and vote... we had two very important votes yesterday, he wasn’t there for them. This is issues around pensioners, this is issues around the Home Office, and he’s not there,” Rayner said.

Graham Norton has said that he rejected the chance to “queue jump” the Queen line as he predicted a backlash.
The TV personality said that he was offered the chance to skip the public queue to see the Queen lying in state by a friend, who is an MP, but turned the offer down as he thought he would “get it in the neck”.
Norton also said that This Morning presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, who have been targeted on social media over claims they jumped the public line, “did nothing wrong”.
Programme bosses maintain that the presenting duo were rushed into Westminster Hall as members of the press so they could film a segment for the show.
Speaking about the debate surrounding Schofield and Willoughby, Norton told Nihal Arthanayake on BBC Radio 5 Live: “For instance, recently Phil and Holly and the queue. So as far as I’m concerned they did nothing wrong.
