Wimbledon has welcomed 1,000 refugees from the local borough to attend the first ten days of the 2023 Championships.
As part of a partnership with the humanitarian aid charity, the British Red Cross, the All England Club provided tickets, food, drink and transportation to the 1,000 attendees, which included some displaced from Ukraine following Russia's invasion in February 2022.
In addition, the All England Club donated £1 for every spectator who attended Wimbledon this year to support the British Cross' work in Ukraine, which totalled £412,132. Chairman of the All England Club, Ian Hewitt, was pleased to welcome the refugees to Wimbledon and expressed his pleasure at the amount raised to support the Red Cross in an official statement.

The 2023 Wimbledon Championships announced the prize money and points distribution for the 136th edition, and it's higher than last year.
The All England Club has once again pushed the boundaries of generosity. The announcement of a £44.7 million total prize fund for the 2023 Wimbledon Championships, which will run from July 3rd to 16th, has set a new benchmark, outpacing last year's allotment by 11.2%, and edging 17.1% ahead of the pre-Covid prize pool in 2019.
Similar to the second Grand Slam of the season, the Roland Garros , the overall prize money allocation for this year's tournament increased significantly at Wimbledon as over £40 million will be distributed to players throughout Atp & Wta singles, doubles, mixed doubles, and wheelchair tournaments.
Dominating the headlines are the Ladies' and Gentlemen's Singles Championships, with winners being awarded a hefty £2,350,000 each along with 2000 points for the champion. Simultaneously, the runners-up will not be far behind, earning an impressive £1,175,000 and 1300 Wta ranking points,...

Wimbledon chairman Ian Hewitt has confirmed that eight-time champion Roger Federer will return to Wimbledon during the Championships this summer as a lifetime honorary member.
The 20-time Grand Slam champion, and arguably the finest ever player on grass, will return to the scene of his greatest triumphs this year as the All England Club gears up to use this summer's tournament as a celebration of the Swiss player's historic career.
It will be the first time Federer has returned to Wimbledon since retiring from the sport last September, and tournament organisers are currently having discussions about how best to honour his great career.
There is a statue of Fred Perry, for example, outside Centre Court. It is expected that something along these lines will be announced either before the start of the tournament, or unveiled over the Wimbledon fortnight.
Ian Hewitt confirmed as much in a statement at the annual...

The 2023 Wimbledon Championships brings thrilling modifications, enhancing the competition and championing sustainability.
The All England Lawn Tennis Club has revealed a series of long-awaited changes for the 136th edition of the prestigious Wimbledon Championships, set to take place from July 3rd to 16th in London, Great Britain.
This year's tournament will showcase changes in the clothing rules, doubles format, and both the Qualifying Competition and environmental sustainability efforts, reflecting the Club's commitment to innovation and responsibility.
One of the most talked-about changes announced late last year was an amendment to the iconic white clothing rule. For the first time, female competitors will have the option to wear mid or dark-coloured undershorts. However, the remaining requirements for clothing, accessories, and equipment will continue to follow traditional Wimbledon standards.
Another significant alteration is the shortening of the Gentlemen's Doubles format from best-of-five sets to best-of-three. This modification, made after extensive consultation, aligns...

Tennis players from Russia and Belarus will be allowed to compete at Wimbledon 2023 as neutrals after being fully banned from the tournament last year following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
As neutrals, Russian and Belarusian athletes won’t have flags shown next to their names, nor will their national anthems be played at matches. Wimbledon is also still barring the entry of players who receive any funding or sponsorship from the two states or companies they might operate or control.
Ukrainian government officials, however, were critical of the decision, with Dmytro Kuleba,...

London, March 31 (Ians) Russian and Belarusian players are allowed to compete at Wimbledon this year after the All England Lawn Tennis Club (Aeltc) on Friday lifted the ban on players from the two countries, which was imposed last year in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The players from Russia and Belarus can take part subject to competing as ‘neutral athletes’ and complying with appropriate conditions which include — not receiving funding from the Russian and/or Belarusian state (including sponsorship from companies operated or controlled by the state) and not to support the Russian and/or Belarusian state or their regimes and leaders.
The Aeltc said the decision was taken after constructive dialogue with the UK Government, the Lawn Tennis Association (Lta) and international stakeholder bodies in tennis.

The All England Lawn and Tennis Club (Aeltc) has announced that Russian and Belarusian players will be allowed to compete in the 2023 Wimbledon from July 3rd to 16th.
Despite the title suggesting it will be simple it's really not because there is a condition. Athletes from both nations must sign declarations of neutrality and cannot express support for Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Additionally, players receiving state funding from either nation will remain barred from competing. The same restrictions will apply to other Lta events, including Queen's during the Grass court swing.
Previously, Wimbledon was prohibited from awarding ranking points and faced heavy fines due to their ban last year which forced their hand this year. This meant that Elena Rybakina, a current Grand Slam champion, didn't get any points for her effort. Novak Djokovic on the men's side suffered the same fate but that will be changing this year.
