Woni Spotts is the first verified Black woman to travel to every country and continent in the world by 2018. She was born in Los Angeles to Roger and Betty Spotts. Beginning in high school, she hosted a documentary that included traveling around the globe. After the documentary ended, Ms. Spotts developed an e-Commerce company, funding her future solo travel between 2014 and 2018. Despite being an accomplished musician, songwriter, pianist, and artist, she decided not to follow in her family's entertainment footsteps and pursue degrees in anthropology and philosophy.
Though many regions were occupied, Ms. Spotts traveled to individual countries. What's amazing is she ventured to locations no longer in existence like The Soviet Union (Ukraine, Georgia, Belorussia, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia), Czechoslovakia (Slovakia and the Czech Republic), and Yugoslavia (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia). Ms. Spotts' expedition led to Juba, founded in 1922 (the capital of what is now South Sudan), Asmara, Eritrea (when it was under Ethiopian control), Brazzaville, founded in 1883 (Republic of the Congo), and Kinshasa, founded in 1881 (Zaire/Democratic Republic of the Congo). She journeyed to Ouagadougou, founded in 1920 (Republic of Upper Volta/Burkina Faso), Windhoek, founded in 1890 (German South-West Africa/Namibia), Basque (a region in Spain), and Transnistria (a region in Moldova). Basque and Transnistria may someday become independent countries.
Between 1979 and 1982 Ms. Spotts visited what are now 162 countries and other locations on the documentary "Passing Through" (1989).
