Dolissa Medina has been making films since 2000. Her short work has screened at festivals such as Rotterdam International Film Festival, Oberhausen Film Festival, Ann Arbor Film Festival, MIX NYC, and Black Maria. In 2006 she collaborated with the San Francisco Fire Department to produce a site-specific outdoor screening of her work for the 100th anniversary of the city's 1906 earthquake. Her writing has appeared in Film Quarterly and other publications. A former Fulbright fellow, Medina has also received grants from the San Francisco Arts Commission, the Bay Area Video Coalition, and other foundations. She holds an MFA in Visual Arts from UC-San Diego and as an undergraduate at San Francisco State University, majored in journalism and history.
