“Survivor 45” made history once again last week as Kaleb Gebrewold successfully played his Shot in the Dark to a unanimous vote against him, breaking the record with 11 votes cast for him, two more than when Kelley Wentworth back in “Survivor: Second Chance” played an immunity idol negating nine votes against her. Let’s break down what events transpired that led up to this groundbreaking moment as the tribes converged to one beach.
After the ouster of Brando Meyer in the last episode, Kendra McQuarrie was on the warpath and wanted revenge on Emily Flippen for lying to her, and siding with the Reba duo of Austin Li Coon and Drew Basile. The next day, right before the boats arrived to pick the tribes up to unite with everyone, Bruce Perreault was able to find the new Lulu idol underneath the shelter and shared it with the whole tribe, minus Katurah Topps.

Over the years, a few Survivor contestants have captivated the imaginations of fans around the world. These contestants love talking about their experiences on the show, dishing the dirt about what really happens behind the scenes. Kelly Wentworth is one of Survivor’s most beloved veterans, a reality star who has appeared in several seasons of the iconic competition show. Not only has Wentworth been open about her own experience with the show, but she has talked about longtime Survivor host Jeff Probst as well – and in a recent podcast conversation with Tyson Apostol, Wentworth discussed how Probst will “freak out” if something isn’t going exactly according to plan.

Over the years, a mythology has emerged around Survivor, with fans eager to discuss the show, its contestants, and the many challenges. Season 38 contestant Kelley Wentworth recently discussed one challenge and why longtime host Jeff Probst stepped in to stop it.

Survivor fans always want to know behind-the-scenes secrets from the CBS reality competition series, including how the show is made and how the contestants survive with limited resources on an abandoned beach. And one main question that frequently arises concerns what the Survivor castaways do when they get their period.
Kelley Wentworth and Abi-Maria Gomes | Photo by CBS via Getty Images ‘Survivor’ cast members have limited resources
Survivor premiered on CBS in 2000, and it was an immediate hit. Viewers everywhere were fascinated by the show’s concept, which revolved around stranding a group of strangers on an island and forcing them to create their own society. They have very few resources, so they must build their shelter and find and hunt for food.
The castaways also don’t have access to a shower or toilet. So they don’t have the same privacy in Survivor as they do at home.

The “reality” portion of reality television has been debated over the years. Some shows are painstakingly obviously fake, while others feel like they are as objective as any Hollywood production can be. And Survivor is a show that leans more toward the latter. Most elements of the CBS reality competition series feel real (even though some fans argue otherwise), but there is one rehearsed aspect of Survivor.

Survivor premiered on May 31, 2000, on CBS, and the show was an immediate hit. But the strategic gameplay, contestants like Kelly Wigglesworth, Rudy Boesch, Sue Hawk, and Richard Hatch, and the series’ concept had everyone talking.

Survivor producers put a lot of time and effort into making each season. Most of the time, the planning includes twists, challenges, puzzles, etc. And even though Survivor isn’t the most glamorous show, the cast and crew must also deliberate what the castaways will wear during the game. But can the Survivor players pick what clothing they bring to the island?

As Survivor fans have noticed over the seasons, each castaway’s wardrobe coordinates with their starting tribe’s color.
For example, producers gave the Soka tribe in Survivor 44 (pictured above) green buffs, so their color was green. As a result, they each brought with them green-colored clothing. So we know that producers at least inform the players what colors to focus...

Hidden Immunity Idols have been a “Survivor” staple since Season 11, “Guatemala,” when Gary Hogeboom found the elusive token. Since then, idols are being used on a much more strategic level, with some finders even playing it on other people in the game. It is an added layer to the game that continues to make players even more paranoid than they already were, fearful of being blindsided by the finder. But who’s found the most idols on “Survivor”? Scroll down for the updated list.
Some “Survivor” contestants are dangerously good at finding idols. Once you find one, it generally becomes easier to know what to look for. Players like Russell Hantz, Tony Vlachos, Tai Trang, Rick Devens and Kelley Wentworth have all attained multiple idols in the same season. Not everyone plays their idol correctly, and some infamously fail to play them at the right time, resulting in their elimination.

Janelle Pierzina may be out of the Big Brother house, and while it sucks, we're getting her unfiltered response to what is happening via social media.
Pierzina was evicted last week, and her ride-or-die, Kaysar Ridha got evicted by a vote of 10-0 on Thursday's show.
Ahead of her friend's eviction, Janelle took to Instagram with a black dress for Kaysar's "funeral."
In true Janelle fashion, she was dressed up, and posing on her kitchen island.
When it came to the episode, Kaysar mentioned many of his fellow houseguests in his speech, alleging that Cody Calafiore and Nicole Franzel were running the house, and that they were in a "love triangle" with Dani Briones.
It was ... something. Ian Terry coached Kaysar to cause a lot of commotion on his way out the door.
Viewers loved all the drama on social media, and Janelle said the following:
“Yesss Kaysar Burn the house down before you leave.

“Survivor” superfans are currently hyped for the upcoming all-winners season, but it’s not always the case that the most popular contestant of the season is the one who wins. In fact, the audience tends to fall in love with those who just come up short of the $1 million prize, often more so than the champion. Players like Rupert Boneham, Cirie Fields and Joe Anglim will probably never win “Survivor,” no matter how many times they come back and try. Their likability is a double-edged sword — they’re genial enough to be safe through several Tribal Councils but once it gets toward the end, they’re too big of a jury threat to win. As we prepare for “Survivor: Winners at War,” here’s the ranking of our 16 favorite lovable losers we hoped would make it onto an all-winner season someday.

With the dust now settled on “Survivor: Edge of Extinction,” it’s time to assess where Season 38 fits into the legacy of the long-running reality series. The Extinction Island twist was divisive from the start and those who didn’t care for it were enraged to see Chris Underwood, booted on Day 8, return a month later and win after having barely played the active game. Others liked how Extinction Island offered a second chance to players like Rick Devens, who certainly made the most of his return to the game. In recent years the “Survivor” reunion show has slowly been snuffed out before our eyes, with last week’s live “Edge of Extinction” chatfest running for less than 30 minutes. That’s a far cry from the early years of the reality TV show when finale night would conclude with a full one-hour reunion following the two-hour final episode. According to our recent poll, viewers are nearly unanimous that they want “Survivor” to bring back the hour-long reunion show, with 89% voting yes and 11% voting no. Do you agree or disagree with those poll results? Sound off down in the comments section.

The clue was there all along. We “Survivor” fans should have known better. When Extinction Island dweller Chris Underwood (see above) got what I like to call “The Little Mermaid” edit on Season 38’s penultimate episode as he was seen fetchingly perched on a rock while surrounded by water as he read the letter of encouragement he wrote to himself, the jig was up.
The district sales manager from South Carolina had all ready won, despite being the third castaway voted off and only participating in the game for 13 days. Meanwhile, the puckishly amusing TV anchor man from Georgia Rick Devens, the first Extinction returnee who seemed to find an immunity idol every 2 minutes and crushed many an individual immunity challenge, let his guard down and allowed Chris to take control of events.

There are those “Survivor” fans whose dream is to compete in the game one day. Then there are those who, like me, would be satisfied to simply attend the taping of live portion of the finale and gawk at the players that they have been watching for weeks. Well, I can now cross that off my bucket list. I was part of the audience who participated in the three-hour wrap-up of Season 38, aka “Edge of Extinction.”
By now, you probably know that former Extinction Island dweller Chris Underwood somehow managed to win the title of Sole Survivor away from the favorite to take it all, idol-magnet Rick Devens, after only playing only 13 days. Controversial doesn’t even cover that outcome.
But that decision couldn’t spoil my opportunity to gaze upon such fan favorites as the season’s returning veteran players — Joe Anglim, Aubry Bracco, Kelley Wentworth and David Wright.

‘Survivor: Edge of Extinction’: 4 reasons why Lauren O’Connell can and should be named sole survivor
As of now, 21-year-old Lauren O’Connell trails 33-year-old Rick Devens in our overall odds to win “Survivor: Edge of Extinction.” Rick was the 4th player voted out of the game, in part by Lauren herself, but returned from Extinction Island shortly after and has been struggling to find his footing within a solid alliance ever since. He leads our odds to win with 10/9 favorability, but is followed closely behind by Lauren with 27/10 odds of her own.
In all, we don’t know where exactly Lauren’s placement will fall–she actually leads none of our finale predictions! She ranks behind Gavin Whitson (21/10) in predictions to take 2nd place with 43/20 odds, fourth in predictions to take 3rd place with 19/2 odds, third in predictions to take 4th place with 5/1 odds, fifth in predictions to take 5th place with 13/1 odds and is at 100/1 odds to take 6th place.
So what is Lauren’s fate in the game?...

The “Survivor: Edge of Extinction” finale is upon us, and we officially have the largest number of players heading into the final episode who could still win the game in “Survivor” history: 16. There are five players left in the active game while 11 lie in wait in Extinction Island, ready to compete for a chance to get back in. So how can we predict who wins this season? Looking at the edit of each player gives us some clues about who producers are setting up as a satisfying winner to the audience. While those currently in the game have a better shot, through the sheer act of surviving so many Tribal Councils, even those who were sent to Extinction Island could have a viable path to victory.
Below is our final “winner’s edit” ranking of the season, combining screen time, confessionals, their individual paths to a win, and trends with past winners.

Are you ready for “the most unpredictable ‘Survivor’ finale ever”? Well, you better be, because that’s exactly how CBS is promoting its three-hour finale event on Wednesday, May 15. In the latest preview trailer (watch above), the only castaway who gets any major screen time is, of course, Rick Devens, the fan-favorite underdog who has an uphill climb to make it to the final tribal council. “I’m so excited!” Rick shouts about making it to the Final 5. “This is a million dollars. I’m trying everything I can.”
SEERick Devens deserves to win ‘Survivor: Edge of Extinction,’ but the odds are stacked against him
Also in the promo video, the 11 voted-out castaways are seen competing for their shot at returning to the game. They are: Reem Daly, Chris Underwood, Aubry Bracco, Joe Anglim, Eric Hafemann, Julia Carter, David Wright, Kelley Wentworth, Dan “Wardog” DaSilva, Ron Clark and last week’s eliminated player Aurora McCreary.

Even though Rick Devens leads Gold Derby’s predictions to win “Survivor: Edge of Extinction” on Wednesday, May 15, he still has insurmountable odds stacked against him. This Georgia newscaster has been the game’s number one target ever since returning from Extinction Island at the merge, but thanks to a combination of winning immunity challenges, finding hidden idols and making the right alliances at the right time, he’s managed to make it to the Top 5. Will lightning strike for Rick or will his tribe mates finally get their wish by voting him out?

Aurora McCreary really, really wanted to be taken on the helicopter/resort reward in the 13th episode of “Survivor: Edge of Extinction,” but challenge winner Gavin Whitson instead invited along Victoria Baamonde and Lauren O’Connell. Back at camp, a disappointed Aurora tried to distract herself by soaking up some rays on the beach when the threesome literally flew overhead in the helicopter. While the episode didn’t show Aurora’s perspective of this memorable encounter, CBS has now released a deleted scene revealing just that. Watch the video above.

“I’ve been rooting for Aubry Bracco for a long time,” Gold Derby’s Susan Wloszczyna says to Marcus James Dixon about who she wants to return from the Edge of Extinction in next week’s “Survivor” season finale. Susan reminds viewers that Aubry has had a practice advantage for “I don’t know how many weeks now,” adding, “She has nothing else to do on the island so she’s been practicing for whatever challenge they have to do.” Watch our “Survivor” Season 38, Episode 13 video recap above.

In the penultimate episode of “Survivor: Edge of Extinction,” the near-unanimous plan was to vote out Rick Devens, but he ruined their easy vote when he won the immunity challenge. The castaways then set their sights on Julie Rosenberg, but Rick bluffed at tribal council that he was going to use his hidden idol on Julie, so Plan C was enacted. That’s when Aurora McCreary was voted out. “It was so predictable” that Rick was bluffing, Aurora proclaimed in her exit interview at the end of the 13th episode. “I can’t understand how anyone fell for that.”

Only two episodes remain of “Survivor: Edge of Extinction,” and there are still 16 people who could win the game. That is thanks to the Extinction Island twist, with 10 players voted out hoping to win a spot back in. Setting that group aside, the six remaining active players in the game have all had fascinating journeys up to this point. While some are shown in the edit much more than others, there is still potential for each of them to win that $1 million check and the title of Sole Survivor.
Below is a ranking of the six players left in the active game in order of who has the most viable winner’s edit, taking into account screen time, confessionals, whether they are the hero or the villain, and other X-factors.

“I took my eye off the prize,” confessed Ron Clark after being voted out of “Survivor: Edge of Extinction” during a memorable tribal council in which two advantages (a hidden idol and an extra vote) were played. Ron had concocted a diabolical plan in which he gifted his expired advantage menu to Rick Devens, hoping that it would convince him to trust him. Unfortunately for Ron, Rick later found a real immunity idol that ended up saving him from elimination. Scroll down to see Ron’s full “Survivor” exit interview from Season 38, Episode 12.

“Survivor” is getting down to the nitty-gritty as only eight players remain in the proper game. After a post-merge of the Kama alliance getting picked off one by one, the Manu-turned-Lesu tribe finally lost some players last week and big ones, too — the exit of David Wright and Kelley Wentworth means there are no more returning players in the game. Looking at the edit, the Final 8 have had varying degrees of screen time through the first 10 hours of this season and we now have a pretty good sense of who probably won’t make it to the end and who has a plausible winner’s edit.

Will the next winner of “Survivor” be a 21-year-old college student from Waco, Texas?
According to Gold Derby’s “Edge of Extinction” racetrack odds, Lauren O’Connell is far ahead of the pack with leading 9/2 odds to win the $1 million check. It’s a huge show of support for the castaway who’s been on the bottom for most of the game — both physically and mentally. However, with a hidden immunity idol still in her pocket and the fact that she’s no longer tethered to huge targets like Kelley Wentworth (who was eliminated) and Dan “Wardog” DaSilva (who betrayed her), might Lauren sneak her way into the winner’s circle?

With 10 people left in the proper “Survivor: Edge of Extinction” game, it’s time to check in on who is emerging as a threat to win the season. After a highly successful pre-merge, the original Kama tribe has been steadily bleeding members post-merge, including Joe Anglim, Eric Hafemann and Julia Carter. The tables have certainly turned as the unlucky original Manu tribe that became Lesu now finds itself in a power position. Should any of that group get to the end, they certainly have a compelling story to tell the jury about surviving the early hardships and a seemingly unbeatable Kama tribe.
Looking at the edit, each of those Lesu members is well-defined and we know their personal story and strategic acumen. The same cannot be said for much of the Kama tribe, though there are some notable exceptions. Here are the Top 5 “Survivor” 38 contestants we think have the best...

If you thought last week was crazy, you ain’t seen nothing yet. In CBS’s preview trailer for the 10th episode of “Survivor: Edge of Extinction” (watch above), it’s revealed that two castaways will be voted out in two separate tribal councils. With 10 players remaining in the game, it’s anyone’s guess what might happen over the course of this “epic hour,” but Gold Derby’s racetrack odds currently predict that immunity idol buddies Kelley Wentworth and Lauren O’Connell are the most in danger of being sent to Extinction Island.

Dan “Wardog” DaSilva says it best in the video when he proclaims, “In this season in which we’ve had five major blindsides, you gotta be stealth.” The shocking eliminations he’s referring to are Chris Underwood, Rick Devens, Aubry Bracco, Joe Anglim and Eric Hafemann.

Following one of the liveliest and most frantic tribal councils in series history, “Survivor: Edge of Extinction” has become incredibly unpredictable. A few weeks ago it looked like the original Kama alliance was going to bulldoze through the entire competition, but then they cracked and now they’re demolished. After losing five of their numbers in the first five weeks, the original Manu tribe has somehow remained in the game to this point where they match the original Kama in a 5-5 split. But that isn’t saying much considering how fractured both sides are. Inside the group of 10 are four power pairs, closely aligned to one another, but with relationships to the other pairs so strained that there’s no telling how they’ll combine to decide the next vote.
With Wardog and Aurora floating around in the middle, the table is set for another wild scramble among the power pairs.

Even though David Wright only received one vote at last week’s “craziest” tribal council ever, this “Survivor: Edge of Extinction” contestant has no regrets about playing his and Rick Devens‘ combined hidden immunity idol. “It was the right move given the just complete chaos that we were surrounded by,” he declares in the sneak peek video for Wednesday’s 10th episode (watch above). Instead, Julia Carter ended up being eliminated with nine votes cast against her, including those of some of her closest allies.

When the remaining 10 players return home to camp on Night 23, they express their amazement at what just transpired at tribal council with everyone scrambling around and huddling up. “Wow, that was some tribal,” notes David before telling his buddy Rick, “Thanks for the idol play.

“It was hard to keep track,” Gold Derby’s Susan Wloszczyna tells Marcus James Dixon about the “craziest” tribal council ever in this week’s episode of “Survivor: Edge of Extinction.” She continues, “Everybody was seeming to not just change alliances, but physically move around, showing who they suddenly wanted to be voting with.” In the end Julia Carter ended up being eliminated and she chose the option of going to Extinction Island for a future shot at returning to the game. Watch our “Survivor” video recap above for Season 38, Episode 9.
