Familiar tropes are reheated in this diverting kids’ film whose occasional charm belies a troubled production
This middling half-term time-killer arrives trailing an unusually troubled production history. It may be destined to crop up in film quizzes as the first major studio release to bear no directorial credit whatsoever, the result of Pixar alumnus Dylan Brown being fired from the project after allegations of inappropriate behaviour. Brown disputed the allegations. An anonymous committee of animation pros was subsequently assembled to complete a salvage job that we can, with some generosity, describe as semi-successful. You and your children will have sat through many worse films that took far easier routes to the screen – which is not to say that Wonder Park is not immediately forgettable.
One key issue is familiarity. The film takes two elements that have always tested well among the under-tens – talking animals and theme parks – and snapped them...

Aside from going to the movies (natch’) what’s very very high up on the lists of kids’ fun activities? Right at the ‘tippy-top” would probably be a visit to a big ole’ amusement park. Not the traveling carnivals that go from town to town and set up for a few days in an empty field or a parking lot. We’re talking the big permanent vacation destinations like your “several flags over…” or “something land or world” with the Griswold family running in slo-mo toward the front gate. And just what could make such an excursion even more fun, aside from a multi-day express pass or unlimited refreshment vouchers? What if that place was based on your own ideas, if you were the “Imagineer” thinking up the perfect coaster or ride? Well, as this new animated movie suggests, that would truly be a Wonder Park.
Actually, this place, in the film,...

Having acted longer than some of his “Wonder Park” cast members have been alive, Ken Jeong, who jokingly described himself as “the dumbest judge on ‘The Masked Singer’ and the dumbest guy on ‘Community,'” passed down some valuable wisdom about the entertainment industry to his young co-stars.
“It sounds cliché, but the older I get, I still maintain a spirit of fun on set and at work. It’s just like any job, when you get there that day — just have fun. It actually matters,” he told Variety at the film’s premiere in Los Angeles on Sunday.
“Wonder Park” follows a young girl named June (voiced by Brianna Denski) who spent her childhood dreaming up a fantastical amusement park with zany rides and talking animals. After experiencing hardships and losing her creative spark growing up, she discovers the park actually exists just as she needs it most. Twelve-year-old...

In the first teaser trailer for Paramount’s “Wonder Park,” a lost theme park springs back to life after being uncovered by a girl.
In the trailer, a young girl (voiced by Brianna Denski) walks into a forest which reveals a magical place beyond the trees. The theme park comes back to life, with all of its inhabitants, including bears, monkeys and pigs, reprising their roles in the park.
“Wonderland is now open!” the monkey says.

Jeffrey Tambor, who in recent months has been accused of harassment, has been replaced as voice talent in Paramount’s upcoming animated offering “Wonder Park,” a Paramount spokesperson told TheWrap on Thursday.
Tambor has been replaced in the film, which had previously been titled “Adventure Park,” by Ken Hudson Campbell, whose credits include “Armageddon,” “Groundhog Day” and “Home Alone.”
“Jeffrey Tambor is not part of the final voice cast for ‘Wonder Park.’ During production, we came to the decision that it was in the best interests of the film to go in a different direction,” the Paramount spokesperson told TheWrap. “The character of Boomer the Bear is now voiced by the very talented Ken Hudson Campbell.”

Annecy, France — Paramount Animation’s presentation of “Wonder Park” at the Annecy Festival packed a large interest. It was the first Annecy for DreamWorks Animation veteran Mireille Soria since she was appointed president of Paramount Animation by Jim Gianapaolos in July 2017. People were keen to know what she’d say about where she wanted to take the division.
Also, after several years absent from most international events, Spain animation made an impressive splash at March’s Cartoon Movie in Bordeaux. The big film missing there was Paramount Animation’s “Wonder Park,” whose animation vendor and co-producer – along with Nickelodeon Movies – was Madrid’s Ilion Animation Studios. Clips of “Wonder Park” and a song featured at cinema.con. But Annecy’s sneak peek promised a far deeper drill down.
