- Composer
David Roman is a Canadian Music Composer and Audio Engineer born and raised in Weyburn, SK. David's musical career dates back to the mid 90's playing and touring around Saskatchewan in a Hard Rock band named "Linger". He spent many years writing aggressive music with melodic interludes, taking influence from the Industrial and Metal acts of the 90's. Concurrently, David developed a love for film music and often cited artists such as Clint Mansell and Howard Shore as huge musical influences in his band's writing.
It wasn't until 2012 that David began trying his hand at film music and audio. His first piece of work is a short film entitled "Disorient" created by a film student from the University of Regina. David did the entirety of the post audio in collaboration with Lea Arngrimson. It wasn't long after that other students began asking for help with the audio and music of their films, leading to many student collaborations With the culmination of several short film opportunities, David quickly became a mainstay in the Saskatchewan film scene. His work continues to grow in scope with his first feature length film score due out in 2017 for the indie film "Talent". David's film scores and audio mixes have received several international festival appearances including the Yorkton Film Festival, imagineNATIVE, American Indian Film Festival, Wairoa Maori Film Festival, MICIV Indigenous Film Festival of Venezuala and the list continues to grow.
David considers his perspective in the industry rather unique coming from an immigrant family and also having a social work degree from the University of Regina. He has been in touch with the social issues of his city and country at the ground level working in several social work positions. For this reason, David's music bears a certain empathy for those disenfranchised and struggling. He is most comfortable working on films dealing with sociopolitical issues and darker themes. However, David has taken on films of various genres over the years and has also become quite comfortable with comedy scoring as heard in the films "Fragments of Penny" and "Talent".
