Zdenek Mácal(1936-2023)
He was an internationally-renowned conductor who guest-conducted over 160 orchestras worldwide, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Royal Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic, the Orchestre de Paris, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, and the Czech Philharmonic. He made his American debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and led the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the St. Louis Symphony, the Pittsburgh Symphony, the Minnesota Orchestra, and the Houston Symphony.
He recorded for EMI, French Decca, Supraphon, and Deutsche Grammophon, and recorded the complete Dvorák symphonies and tone poems.
At age four, he began violin lessons with his father. He studied conducting at the Brno Conservatory and the Janácek Academy of Music.
