Andrew Michael Morris is a development and production executive and series creator with Accessible Media Inc., a not-for-profit media company that establishes and supports a voice for Canadians with disabilities.
In 2011, Andrew pioneered a method of producing original television content using inclusive design principles, such that audiences who are blind, partially sighted, and fully sighted can enjoy media together without add-on described video. In 2017, this technique, now known as Integrated Described Video (IDV), received the FCC Annual Chairman's Award for Advancement in Accessibility, and today it is taught in schools and enjoyed by Canadians of all abilities on AMI and conventional broadcasters across the country.
Andrew is a former Chair of the Described Video Best Practices Task Force in cooperation with the Canadian Association of Broadcasters and the CRTC, a mentor to emerging media producers, and regularly gives presentations on commissioning, media accessibility and authentic representation of people with disabilities in the media.
