Former Fox News and Fox Business Network commentator Melissa Francis learned she had been fired in October 2020 after reading “you’ve been canceled” on her Teleprompter moments before her show was to go live, she told Megyn Kelly on Friday.
Francis, who was working from a studio the network had set up at her house during the Covid lockdown, was preparing to do an upcoming newscast when she read on the Teleprompter that she wasn’t needed anymore, she said on the SiriusXM radio program, “The Megyn Kelly Show.”
At the time, she was a co-host of one of Fox’s biggest daytime shows, “Outnumbered,” and had been negotiating for a raise to match the salaries of her male counterparts.

Judge Andrew Napolitano, a legal contributor for Fox News, is no longer employed by the network following allegations of sexual harassment.
In a complaint filed on Monday, a 27-year-old Fox News associate producer alleged that Napolitano has “sexually harassed numerous young male employees during his tenure at Fox News.” The plaintiff, whose name is John Fawcett, claims that he reported Napolitano’s misconduct to Fox News’ human resources department but they did not take any immediate action against him.
In a statement to Variety, Fox News said that upon learning of the allegations, the network “immediately investigated the claims and addressed the matter with both parties.” Napolitano has not appeared on air at Fox News for several months.

Ed Henry, a former Fox News host who was fired last summer for sexual misconduct, sued the network and Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott for defamation on Wednesday.
On Thursday he filed similar defamation suits against CNN and NPR personalities. Henry’s wife, Shirley Henry, is an editor at NPR.
The complaint says that after Henry’s 2019 promotion to “America’s Newsroom” co-host, “Scott and Fox News turned against Plaintiff and abruptly fired him, publicly humiliating him in the process.” The suit claims Scott knew a rape accusation was coming from a former Fox Business staffer with whom Henry said he had a consensual affair, though the complaint called the accusation “false.”
“Regrettably, Ms. Scott sandbagged Plaintiff with her statement, lending credence to the false allegations because she was trying to save her own career and burnish her image as a tough, no nonsense female executive who cleaned up Fox News,...

The Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund is supporting a sexual harassment lawsuit filed against Fox News and several of its anchors, including Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity.
The organization — which was founded in the wake of the #MeToo movement — is providing PR support to Cathy Areu, a former unpaid Fox News contributor who alleges she faced a “barrage of sexual harassment” at the network.
Fox News has pushed back aggressively on Areu’s claims, releasing messages that appeared to contradict her initial account and threatening to seek legal sanctions if her allegations were not withdrawn.
Areu and Jennifer Eckhart, a former associate producer at the network, filed suit on July 20 in federal court in New York.
Eckhart alleged that Ed Henry, the veteran correspondent and anchor at the network, had violently raped her at a hotel room in 2017. She also accused Henry of psychologically manipulating her and asking her to be his “sex slave.

Fox News filed a letter Wednesday threatening sanctions against Wigdor Llp, which initially represented Cathy Areu, one of the women who accused top Fox News talent of sexual misconduct in July.

Fox News and some of its top on-camera stars face new accusations of misconduct in a lawsuit filed Monday by two women. The suit — filed on behalf of Jennifer Eckhart and Cathy Areu in U.S. District Court — also said that Fox News executives were aware of sexual misconduct accusations against Ed Henry in 2017, three years before firing him, and that the network tried to “take credit” for doing the right thing with its July 1 announcement of his termination.

One former Fox News staffer and one frequent on-air guest at the network filed suit in federal court Monday, alleging they had been harassed individually by Ed Henry, the Fox News anchor who was fired by the cable-news outlet earlier this month following a complaint about “willful sexual misconduct in the workplace,” and their disclosures threaten to revive an era that the Fox Corp.-owned media company had hoped to put behind it after the ouster of Roger Ailes.
One of the plaintiffs, Jennifer Eckhart, alleged she was assaulted by Henry, while the other, Cathy Areu, claimed in the filing that Henry sent her sexually graphic photos and messages. The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in the Southern District of New York by the Wigdor LLC law firm, which has represented several Fox News staffers in the past in complaints that alleged sexual or racial discrimination at the company.

In the wake of his firing, Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott and President Jay Wallace released the following memo to all employees, which was obtained by Deadline:
“We would like to bring a very serious matter to your attention in an effort toward full transparency given the many actions we have taken to improve the culture here over the last four years."
"On Thursday, June 25, we received a complaint about Ed Henry from a former employee’s attorney involving willful sexual misconduct in the workplace years ago."
"We immediately retained an outside law firm (which has never represented Fox News in investigation or litigation) to independently investigate the claims.

Former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson tweeted in reaction to the network’s firing of anchor Ed Henry Wednesday, calling on leadership to remove the non-disclosure agreements of accusers and former employees.
“W/ the latest revelations about Ed Henry at @foxnews– now would be the time for Fox to release all of us (@dianafalzone @julieroginsky) muzzled by NDAs (if everything has changed as they say it has). We’ve demanded & were waiting & why created @liftourvoicesus to help others!” she wrote, referencing her organization, Lift Our Voices.
A represenative for Lift Our Voices didn’t immediately respond to a request for further comment. The organization’s “mission is to create a seismic cultural shift where all current and former workers and volunteers are able to speak truth to power without adverse consequences and fear of retaliation.” It advocates for the end of mandatory NDAs.

Epidemiologists are asking the public to “flatten the curve” of coronavirus infections by observing “social distancing.” It’s unclear how long we’ll have to do that — particularly absent a vaccine — and that’s both a bummer and a drag on the economy, as people miss out on human connections and businesses get shuttered en masse. But it seems like a bit less of a bummer when you put into plain language what “flattening the curve” by “social distancing” means in plain English: Stay The Fuck Home So People Don...

Former interim Democratic National Committee chair Donna Brazile clapped back at Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel Tuesday, responding to her comment about the Democratic primary being “rigged” against Sen. Bernie Sanders.
In fact, Brazile told McDaniel to “go to hell.”
Earlier on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom,” McDaniel discussed the ongoing Super Tuesday voting and what the evening’s vote tallies will mean for remaining campaigns: “It does depend on how big a lead that Sanders takes out of California is, if he picks up a huge proportion of delegates. I don’t see anybody getting out soon and it’s leading towards, potentially, a brokered convention, which will be rigged against Bernie if those superdelegates have their way on that second vote.”

Bill Hemmer takes over for Shep Smith’s old 3 p.m. Et time slot Monday, three months after Smith abruptly left Fox News. Hemmer told TheWrap change can cause people to “scramble,” but the new show, “Bill Hemmer Reports,” is a testament to the “professionalism” of his new team.
“When you make changes in this industry, they happen overnight,” the 14-year Fox News veteran said, referencing Smith’s departure, which came as a shock to viewers and colleagues when it was announced at the end of an otherwise-normal afternoon broadcast. “And then people scramble. Bill Hemmer has for years helped boost some of the best-known personnel on Fox News Channel. Now he’s about to get his own spotlight.
Hemmer on Monday will take over Fox News’ 3 p.m. slot. That’s the time period previously anchored by Shepard Smith. The one that’s supposed to be the showcase for the network’s newsgathering operations. The one Smith left abruptly in October after sparring on-air with Tucker Carlson, one of the network’s primetime opinion hosts.
Hemmer isn’t sweating it. He expects his new show, “Bill Hemmer Reports,” to focus on the stories of the day and not on the opinions expressed around him. “My feeling is, I let them do what they do and they allow me to do what I do,” says the 55-year-old of the network’s primetime lineup in what people who know him say is his usual unflappable tone.

A Fox News panel reacted Thursday to viewers’ reports that Donald Trump’s cameo was cut from a Canadian broadcast of the 1992 holiday movie “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York,” calling the editing “censorship” and a symptom of “derangement.”
The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation said that Trump’s single line in the movie was edited for time, not politics, but on “Fox & Friends” Thursday, pundit Mark Steyn disagreed with the CBC.
“I think they’re actually terrified that people will remember that before he was the new Hitler, he was a beloved mainstream cultural figure,” he said. “That’s who Donald Trump was before he was the new Hitler. I think they’re terrified of these little things that will remind people just how deranged his opponents are.”
