The last time Academy Award-winner Sofia Coppola hit up La Croisette to unveil a new work, 2006's "Marie Antoinette," the Hollywood royal child was met with boos. History didn't repeat itself when "The Bling Ring" kicked off the Cannes' Un Certain Regard section this morning after screening to a packed house of press. No surprise really, given that it takes a pretty straightforward approach to telling its true story of teens gone wild. Not being about one of France's most divisive historical figures also no doubt helped. The second trailer for acclaimed Oscar-winning writer/director Sofia Coppola’s dark comic crime caper, The Bling Ring has arrived. The film is headlined by Harry Potter stunner Emma Watson and is based on the incredible true story of a gang of fame-obsessed teenagers who ventured on a disturbing crime-spree in the Hollywood hills. They notoriously tracked their celebrity ‘heroes’ online before breaking in to their mansions and stealing millions in luxury items.
Leslie Mann, Taissa Farmiga, Claire Julien, Israel Broussard, Katie Chang, Georgia Rock and Gavin Rossdale also co-star in the film hitting UK cinemas on the 5th July and the Us a little earlier on the 14th June.

When future generations want to understand how we lived at the dawn of the plugged-in, privacy-free, Paris Hilton-ized 21st century, there will likely be few films more instructive than “The Bling Ring.” A spiritual sequel of sorts to “The Social Network,” Sofia Coppola’s fact-based tale of the 2008-09 crime spree by a gang of enterprising SoCal teens targeting the homes of high-profile celebrities reps a return to more pop, accessible filmmaking for the “Lost in Translation” auteur following the austere “Somewhere” (which earned only $1.7 million domestically). Though it lacks the name cast and self-consciously outre style of another recent girls-gone-wild opus, “Spring Breakers,” this lively and fascinating pic should score well with its target hipster demo, delivering solid arthouse numbers for upstart distrib A24, which plans a June release Stateside.

We’re all big fans of writer/director Sofia Coppola after impressing with dark, fact-based debut The Virgin Suicides. Her ascent from the disappointing actress in her father’s Godfather conclusion to Oscar-winning writer and director of Lost In Translation has made her one filmmaker we’ll always enjoy seeing what comes next. And that ‘next’ project is another true-life tale, The Bling Ring.
The film follows a group of young teens whose obsession with the celebrity culture of Los Angeles led them to commit a number of burglaries in the Hollywood Hills. They were known to track their heroes whereabouts online and to break in and steal lavish gifts while away from their glamorous mansions. The likes of Paris Hilton and Orlando Bloom were said to be victims before the gang were eventually apprehended.

A new trailer for Emma Watson's new movie The Bling Ring has been released.
Watson stars in the Sofia Coppola-directed movie as Nikki, a member of a teenage burglary ring which successfully broke into the homes of numerous celebrities in the Hollywood Hills.
Nikki and her associates are seen raiding Paris Hilton's home in the new trailer, going through the socialite's walk-in wardrobe and stealing her shoes and clothes.
Watson recently branded Nikki as "superficial, materialistic, vain [and] amoral", but said that she relished the challenge of playing a character that she disliked so much.
Israel Broussard, Katie Chang, Leslie Mann, Claire Julien, Georgia Rock and Carlos Miranda also star in The Bling Ring, which will screen out of competition as the opening film in the Cannes Film Festival's 'Un Certain Regard' strand.
The Bling Ring will be released on June 14 in the Us and on July 5 in the UK. »
