Sega has officially confirmed that a new Sonic The Hedgehog game is coming in 2017...
Update: You may have noticed that this year marks Sonic The Hedgehog's 25th birthday. He may not be the celebrity he was in the golden years of the Sega Mega Drive, but look on the bright side: now Sonic's 25, his car insurance should be much cheaper.
There's also good news if you've been expectantly waiting for a new game featuring the blue blur - Sonic Team have officially announced that they're working on one, with its release date tentatively set for 2017. According to Eurogamer, the announcement was broken at an event in Tokyo by Takeshi Iizuka at Sonic Team, though further details are currently non-existent.
Sonic's last major entry - the critically derided Sonic Boom - wasn't exactly a high-point in the hedgehog's career, but here's hoping Sonic Team's latest gambit will...

Sonic The Hedgehog celebrates his 25th this year. Sega unveils an anniversary logo as news leaks of a possible tie-in-game...
Well, that went by rather fast. The original Sonic The Hedgehog game launched on the Sega Mega Drive in 1991, which means it's the Blue Blur's 25th birthday this year. While the ring-obsessed hedgehog's far from the Mario rival he once was, Sega's still keen to mark the occasion, with the image above (released by Sega on Twitter) shows off Sonic's official 25th anniversary logo.
If a morsel of information from singer Johnny Gioeli is accurate, there's likely to be a Sonic game released this year to coincide with his birthday. Gioeli's the lead singer in the band Crush 40, an outfit whose connection to Sonic goes back to the late 1990s and the original Sonic Adventure.
It seems that Crush 40 will also be providing some music for a forthcoming Sonic entry,...

It hasn’t been easy for fans of Sonic the Hedgehog for the past 15 years. Though still beloved for his classic side-scrolling trilogy on the Genesis, things have been rougher for Sega’s mascot since his jump to both 3D and his first appearances on other consoles.
For a while, it seemed that every Sonic game that came out was okay at best and a disaster at worst. The release of the more positively received Sonic Colors in 2010 and Sonic Generations in 2011 seemed to signal a possible return to form, but the disappointing Sonic Lost World and the now-infamous Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric appear to have brought the series into the realm of constant failure again.
Up until this point, it’s seemed that the only core Sonic title this year will be Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice for the 3Ds, but a recent slip of the tongue may point...
