Dustin Guy Defa, Janicza Bravo, Bernardo Britto & Sean Porter Among Filmmaker Magazine’s 2014 Top 25 New Faces

17 July 2014 12:00 PM, PDT | ioncinema | See recent ioncinema news »

Easily among our favorite curated lists/annual page turners, Filmmaker Magazine has unveiled their 25 New Faces (or 29, when you count the quad creative teams) for 2014, highlighting talents that would also get our vote. Among those with a future that is bright, we’ve got a good sampling from this year’s Sundance Film Fest in A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night‘s helmer Ana Lily Amirpour, short film gold nugget helmers Janicza Bravo (see pic above) & Bernardo Britto, the versatile, can’t sit still Dustin Guy Defa who moves in front of (Swim Little Fish Swim, Computer Chess) and behind the camera for SXSW and Sundance short and feature length film items and, the future is bright cinematographer Sean Porter who we first discovered with It Felt Like Love and then laid it on thick with the Zellner Bros.’ Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter. Here are the individual profiles.

Worth Watching: Alien Planet Coming-of-Age Sci-Fi Short 'Prospect'

28 March 2014 3:28 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"Do not under estimate the danger..." After teasing the trailer just a few months ago, the mesmerizing sci-fi coming-of-age short film Prospect has finally debuted online in full. The short just premiered at the SXSW Film Festival earlier this month and was funded primarily through Kickstarter last year. In the sci-f film, a teenage girl and her father have traveled to a mysterious, toxic alien planet hunting for precious materials to make money. Above all it's just a very well-made, beautifully shot short that will draw you in to its world. I'm looking forward to seeing more from these filmmakers, but for now, watch this for free below and enjoy. Here is Zeek Earl & Chris Caldwell's full 14 minute short film Prospect, in high def from Vimeo: Prospect is the unusual coming-of-age story of a teenage girl on a toxic alien planet. Watch: Sleek Trailer for Toxic Alien Planet Indie Sci-Fi Short 'Prospect'

28 January 2014 10:45 AM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"This is not our world... this will never be our world... we cannot stay here..." Another trailer for a short, but I can't help sharing this footage from the sci-fi short film titled Prospect, directed by Zeek Earl & Chris Caldwell. This is a short we've featured before, back when it was just a Kickstarter project looking for cash to finish. Well, here it is, at least close to being finished. Now it's in trailer format and it looks much, much better than before, I must say. Prospect, starring Callie Harlow, is "the unusual coming-of-age story of a teenage girl on a toxic alien planet." This looks solid for an indie short, and I'm anxious to see the full thing.
