I loved the first Paranormal Activity film. I remember watching it with terrified friends in a shrieking cinema and then later subjecting flatmates to it. My girlfriend to this day is guaranteed a sleepless night if you so much as mention Paranormal Activity during an evening. In preparation for Paranormal Activity 4, I caught up with the sequels. I found them far from as exciting as the original though there was stuff to enjoy in both of them – PA2 perhaps has more pointed scares than the first and I enjoyed the period setting of PA3; surely all horror films should be set in their eighties heyday? What was lacking was the enjoyment of watching them as part of an audience.
So it was with great anticipation I attended »

The Paranormal Activity franchise has become a perennial horror favorite with each new chapter in theaters around Halloween time, and then the subsequent Blu-ray and DVD release arriving in the winter. Paranormal Activity 4 was a box office smash when it hit screens last year, and now you can watch it in the comforts of your home starting this weekend, where it was meant to be seen.
With each new film comes more background and mythology on the demon known as Toby, an evil soul that has attached itself to a young woman named Katie, and is literally in the midst of dragging her, and everyone around her, straight to Hell. In our latest installment, The possessed Katie (Katie Featherston) has moved across the street from a young family in a suburban neighborhood. The daughter of the household, »

Say what you will about the "Paranormal Activity" series, but there's absolutely no denying that director, writer, producer, and creator of the franchise Oren Peli not only crafted one of the most lucrative horror film series in recent memory, but he also helped paved the way for the found-footage phenomenon that currently graces the silver screen a few times every year. The franchise's latest film, "Paranormal Activity 4" (out on Blu-ray and DVD today) takes the terrifying series in a new direction and provides a fresh take on what could easily have become a stale plate of sequels.
MTV recently sat down with Peli to discuss the "Paranormal Activity" series, his rigorous casting process, and the director's favorite horror movies.
MTV: You started this series back in 2007, on the cheap, and it has become an enormous hit. Did you imagine the enormity of it way back then? »

In the Cold Light of Day is also available on DVD this week. Seven Psychopaths Colin Farrell is Marty, a struggling screenwriter trying to come up with the next big script. Though he's on the straight-and-narrow, Marty gets dragged into a web of criminal activity by his eccentric friend Bill (Sam Rockwell). Bill and his partner (Christopher Walken) run a dog-stealing racket, and when they steal from the wrong guy (Woody Harrelson), the consequences turn out to be dire - also, pretty funny. It's a wacky premise, but it makes for a good time, especially thanks to Walken's performance. Featurettes are included with the DVD. 82% Hotel Transylvania Adam Sandler leads an all-star voice cast as Count Dracula, founder of a hidden getaway for supernatural creatures. On his daughter Mavis's (Selena Gomez's) 118th birthday, he invites a whole host of monsters up to the resort to celebrate. Things take a »
