Helena Bonham Carter as Dr. Julia Hoffman, Chloë Grace Moretz as Carolyn Stoddard, Eva Green as Angelique Bouchard, Gulliver McGrath as David Collins, Bella Heathcote as Victoria Winters, Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins, Ray Shirley as Mrs. Johnson, Jackie Earle Haley as Willie Loomis, Jonny Lee Miller as Roger Collins, and Michelle Pfeiffer as Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, Dark Shadows Tim Burton / Johnny Depp’s Dark Shadows is off to a middling start, earning $550,000 at Thursday midnight screenings in North America. Comparing the box-office performance of Dark Shadows to those of, say, Jennifer Lawrence’s eagerly awaited The Hunger Games or Joss Whedon’s superhero ensemble The Avengers would be not only cruel but downright unfair. Although the previous Burton / Depp collaboration, Alice in Wonderland, was a humongous hit, opening with $116 million in March 2010, Burton’s campy version of the late ’60s soap opera Dark Shadows has a different sort of appeal. »

With director Tim Burton's Dark Shadows opening this weekend, I recently got to interview screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith. Starring Johnny Depp as a vampire who awakens in 1972 after having been buried for 200 years, Dark Shadows is based on the 1970s TV series with the same name and it also stars Eva Green, Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloe Moretz, Jackie Earle Haley, Gulliver McGrath, Helena Bonham Carter, Bella Heathcote, Ray Shirley, and Jonny Lee Miller. For more on the film, here's 20 images, 9 clips and 12 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage from the set, and Matt's review. During my extended interview with Grahame-Smith, we talked about how he got involved in the project, his anxiety about having his first film released, how John August contributed to the project, deleted scenes, and what might be on the Blu-ray. In addition, with Grahame-Smith involved in some other high profile projects, we also talked about the Beetlejuice sequel, Tim Burton »

Dark Shadows - a souped-up, jewel-toned, bigscreen adaptation of the musty yet beloved supernatural soap opera from the late sixties - seemed pretty much guaranteed to disappoint at least one of its major potential fanbases. If it were too different from or condescending to its source material, fans of the creaky old serial would cry foul. But if it were too faithful to what really wasn't a particularly coherant (or exciting, on most days) show to begin with, it would bore the hell out of anyone looking for a dependably offbeat Tim Burton movie.
So it's interesting in the worst possible way to see that rather than disappoint half of its audience, Dark Shadows may disappoint pretty much all of it.
For those unfamiliar with the premise, Shadows tells the story of the Collins family, a dynasty of once-prosperous fish canners who by the early 1970's have nearly succumbed to »

Yup, they’re strange. But I guess only one of them is a vampire. Weren’t they all vampires in the original TV shows? I don’t know, I only remember the early ’90s version with Ben Cross and Joanna Going, and not even that clearly, alas. Anyhoo. Check out a new featurette for Tim Burton’s “Dark Shadows” that focuses on the film’s dysfunctional family dynamics. See, this would have been easier if they were all vampires. Or at least werewolves. I mention before that the film has a 50-50 chance of either becoming a big hit or falling flat on its face at the box office. Honestly? After a whopping 9 clips and a half dozen more trailers and featurettes, I’m still not sure where it’s gonna fall… Johnny Depp leads the all-star cast, which includes Bella Heathcote, Chloe Moretz, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, Michelle Pfeiffer, »

With Tim Burton's Dark Shadows opening May 11, Warner Bros. has provided us with 9 clips and 12 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage from the making of the film. The film stars Johnny Depp as a vampire who awakens in 1972 after having been buried for 200 years and tries to reconnect with his descendants. Dark Shadows also stars Eva Green, Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloe Moretz, Jackie Earle Haley, Gulliver McGrath, Helena Bonham Carter, Bella Heathcote, Ray Shirley, and Jonny Lee Miller. While the reaction to the last trailer was mixed, I'm excited by everything I've seen and think Depp and Burton look like they had a blast bringing their passion project to life. In addition, I've spoken to a few people that have seen the movie and all of them have said positive things. Hit the jump to check out the footage and look for new interviews with the cast soon. Check out a new featurette for Tim Burton’s “Dark Shadows”, a 3-minute exploration of the vampire of cinema, though I doubt if any of the bloodsuckers that’s come before Burton’s movie is anything like the one that Johnny Depp plays here. I get the feeling “Dark Shadows” is going to surprise everyone and make a mint, or go down as one of the biggest flops of Burton and Depp’s careers. At this point, I don’t see a half-way point here, folks. It’s either big or bust from the looks of it. An imprisoned vampire, Barnabas Collins, is set free and returns to his ancestral home, where his dysfunctional descendants are in need of his protection. Starring Johnny Depp, Bella Heathcote, Chloe Moretz, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Lee, Jackie Earle Haley, Jonny Lee Miller, Thomas McDonell, and Ray Shirley. With a cast that sports Johnny Depp, Eva Green, Chloe Grace Moretz, Jackie Earle Haley, Helena Bonham Carter and Michelle Pfeiffer, it's easy to lose Christopher Lee in the mix. This new Dark Shadows featurette reminds us that Lee is a consummate master of the horror genre and can boast a role that will forever be cemented in cinematic history. There's a nice visitation of classic (ie non-Twilight) vampire movies that serve as inspiration for Depp's version of Barnabas Collins, an imprisoned vampire who is awakened in the 1970s and must protect his dysfunctional descendants. The film, directed by Tim Burton, also stars Gulliver McGrath, Bella Heathcote, Ray Shirley, and Jonny Lee Miller. Dark Shadows opens May 11th. Hit the jump to check out the featurette. Warner Bros. has released nine character banners for Tim Burton's comedy Dark Shadows. These banners are much better than the character posters, which made the entire cast look like albinos for some reason. Hit the jump to check out the banners. The first trailer for Tim Burton’s feature film version of the cult TV series Dark Shadows has finally arrived. After seeing a bevy of images over the past few months (including some hi-res ones today), we finally get a look at this thing in motion. The plot centers on a vampire (Johnny Depp) who awakens after having been buried for 200 years and tries to reconnect with his descendants. The beginning of the trailer is played straight, and we’re lead to believe that we’re in for another nightmarish tale from Burton, but when Depp wakes up in 1972 things kick into gear. This is very much a comedy, and there are more than a few laughs on display in the trailer. Burton and Depp have a lot of fun with the 1970s setting, and Depp’s reaction to modern technology is amusing. It’s got a goofy tone in »

Dark Shadows, a remake led by Johnny Depp and infused with a larger-than-life design by director Tim Burton, is ostensibly Warner Bros' first summer tentpole. The May 11 release date is less than two months away. But you would be forgiven if that slipped your mind. Although we've seen many, many, many* images, WB has yet to release the first trailer. That will change on Thursday when, in keeping with the atypical promotional cycle, the trailer will premiere on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. A new promo for the gifting episode of Ellen features about 3 seconds of footage from the trailer. It's not much, but since it's our first look at this very intriguing project in motion, you may find it a worthwhile use of your seconds after the jump. Eva Green, Chloe Moretz, Jackie Earle Haley, Michelle Pfieffer, Gulliver McGrath, Bella Heathcote, Ray Shirley, and Jonny Lee Miller star alongside Depp in Dark Shadows. »

As a trailer debut for Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows is (hopefully) on the way soon, four new images from the film have popped up online giving us another peek into the adaptation of the 1970s soap. Johnny Depp plays a vampire who attempts to reintegrate with his descendants after having been buried for 200 years. The supporting cast is incredibly strong, with Chloe Moretz, Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley and Michelle Pfieffer all onboard in most likely creepy/off-kilter roles. We get a good look at Moretz, Green and Pfeiffer in this latest batch of images, as well as another look at Depp’s strange vampire. Hit the jump to check out the images. The film also stars Gulliver McGrath, Helena Bonham Carter, Bella Heathcote, Ray Shirley, and Jonny Lee Miller. Dark Shadows opens May 11th. Images courtesy of CineMarcado. Johnny Depp, Jackie Earle Haley, and Michelle Pfieffer step back into the 70’s in the latest images from Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows.
While a trailer still eludes us, Dark Shadows continues to tease with photographic peeks at the film. The photos are nice, but I’m really hoping a trailer will be popping up soon.
In the latest images, Depp’s Barnabas Collins and Haley’s Willie Loomis explore a Gothic setting while Pfieffer strikes a pose as Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, the “reclusive matriarch of the Collins family. The family tree has fallen in serious disrepair since Barnabas was cursed 200 years ago but even vampirism seems to pale when you consider that Elizabeth hasn’t left the mansion since her husband disappeared ten years ago. Seriously, this is one messed up family.

A new image has surfaced from Tim Burton's Dark Shadows starring Johnny Depp and Eva Green. The film is based off the 1960s-70s cult TV series, and centers on vampire Barnabas Collins' (Depp) attempt to reintegrate with his descendants after having been buried for 200 years. Green plays "Angelique Bouchard, a witch driven by her love/hate relationship with Collins." The look she's giving him in the image? Love/hate. While we’ve yet to see a trailer for Tim Burton’s adaptation of the cult TV series Dark Shadows, we’ve actually gotten a look at quite a few images from the pic. Today we’ve got a new look at the protagonist by way of a very pointy Johnny Depp. Depp plays a vampire who struggles to reintegrate with his descendants after having been buried for 200 years. Burton recently talked at length about the project's tone and setting, calling it "a weird soap opera." While the material is decidedly Burton-esque, I’m encouraged by the diverse cast and period setting. With this bevy of images at our disposal, hopefully a trailer is coming soon. Hit the jump to check out the image. The film also stars Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloe Moretz, Eva Green, Gulliver McGrath, Bella Heathcote, Ray Shirley, Jackie Earle Haley, and Jonny Lee Miller. I always thought Johnny Depp looked much younger than his age (the guy is almost 50, after all), but damn, he looks like he’s in his early 20s in this new image from Tim Burton’s “Dark Shadows” reboot. In the film, based on the TV show of the same name, Depp plays Barnabas Collins, a vampire who longs for his true love. Michelle Pfeiffer plays Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, the matriarch of the Collins’ clan. I’m still not sure if this movie is supposed to be some kind of vampire soap opera or a supernatural/horror movie with, you know, fighting monsters and the like. Tim Burton doesn’t actually do action movies, so I reckon it’ll probably be somewhere between the two. Also starring Bella Heathcote, Chloe Moretz, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, Christopher Lee, Jackie Earle Haley, Jonny Lee Miller, Thomas McDonell, and Ray Shirley. The »
