Besides the eleven Indianapolis 500 Mile Races, Johnny won over 30 midget features including the 4-Crown Nationals midget feature twice, the 1979 "Hut Hundred," and the "Copper Classic" midget portion in 1986. In 1977 he was 2nd in the National Midget Championship and has been the runner-up in the Championship Dirt Cars twice. Johnny has placed 5th at Indianapolis twice, in 1977 and again in 1985. His record includes two Silver Crown and five Sprint Car features. He was inducted into the National Midget Auto Racing Hall of fame in 1994. He is listed as #42 in the world as an all-time open wheel race winner.
Racing Hall of Fame member Johnny carries his father's name, with a different spelling. His father Johnnie Parsons is an Indy 500 winner (1952) where Johnny also finished in the top five-five times.
Johnny is now retired as a driver, however, he still does does speaking engagements.
Johnny Parsons Jr is the son of the famous 1950 winner of the Indianapolis 500, Johnnie Parsons. He is also a veteran of the Indy 500 himself having finished fifth in 1977 and 1985. Johnny Parsons Jr. was inducted in the National Midget Auto Racing Hall of Fame in 1994.
