Synopsis:

Two high school girls, tired of being bullied by the popular kids, set out to unite opposing factions of outsiders at their school in hopes of realigning the social pecking order.

The Outcasts, the new teen comedy from director Peter Hutchings, is a wildly entertaining surprise. While the film itself at first comes across as a rather stereotypical, low-budget Mean Girls rip-off, it blossoms into an incredibly funny, occasionally touching, and very well acted piece of entertainment.

Swen Group Moves Into U.S. Distribution With Victoria Justice’s ‘Outcasts’ (Exclusive)

Swen is moving into North American distribution on the teen comedy “The Outcasts.” The film, starring Victoria Justice and Eden Sher, will be released on April 14 in movie theaters and VOD.

Swen, which stands for South West East North, was founded in 1985 and handles production, distribution, marketing and live events. Headquartered in Miami, the group also has offices in Los Angeles, Sao Paulo and Hong Kong.

The Outcasts,” described as “Mean Girls” meets “Revenge of the Nerds,” is being distributed by Swen in partnership with Vision Films and Eammon Films. The cast also includes Avan Jogia, Peyton List, Ashley Rickards, Claudia Lee and Katie Chang.

‘Empire’ Actor Bryshere Gray to Star in Indie Drama ‘Canal Street’

Empire” actor Bryshere Gray is starring in the independent drama “Canal Street” with production starting in Chicago, Variety has learned exclusively.

The leading cast includes Yancey Arias, Lance Reddick, Katie Chang, “Bosch” star Jamie Hector and Kevin Quinn. Other cast members are Woody McClain, Harry Lennix, Jon Seda, Will Yun Lee, Michael Beach and Giovanni Watson.

Red Guerilla Entertainment is the film’s production company. “Canal Street” is directed, co-written and exec produced by Rhyan Lamarr, who filled the same roles for his 2016 film “Restored Me.”

Producers are Amir Windom, Adam Key, Charlie Mac, Chris Jamerson, Anita Luckett, Ronique Shaw and Reggie Hunter. Windom is a veteran recording executive who is supervising the music.
