After Wednesday's group rounds, which decimated the field of Idol wannabes, the boys last night had one more chance to sing for their suppers and prove that they are live-show ready. While all the judges (except Nicki) slept through the proceedings, a few people did well, but no incredible standouts emerged.
In fact, the most interesting thing to happen last night was more of a subtle shift for Idol, which eliminated many of the contestants with interesting or tragic backstories. Those set adrift by the panel of judges last night...

At the beginning of Thursday's American Idol, there were 43 men left in the competition. The next hour was a bloodbath, with many tears and a few tantrums - as well as some standout performances. Curtis Finch Jr., for example, performed a version of Christina Perri's "Jar Of Hearts" that was arguably the strongest of the evening. It may be the season's most overdone song, yet Finch successfully infused it with a rising gospel vibe. Like every reality show, the contestants learned valuable life lessons as they fought to stay in the game. Here are five: 1. Never Let Them See...

‘American Idol’ auditions went to the next level on Feb. 7 as some of our favorites were sent packing after solo night! The cuts were intense — find out who went home below.
The men continued their auditions in front of judges Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban, and Randy Jackson, and the solo auditions proved too stressful for some! Check out the full recap of the Feb. 7 episode below.
As the contestants prepared for their first solo performance with a full band backing them, the nerves were high and the tension was thick! Since the judges were making cuts after every eight singers, the contestants didn’t have to wait too long for their results.
Those Who Went Through
Paul Jolley was first and could barely speak he was shaking so badly! But he had an amazing voice. He was criticized by Nicki for being so “defeated” on stage – she wished he had more professionalism.

It's the final round of Hollywood Week for the men of "American Idol" -- solo day. Who's going to choke and who's going to come through in the clutch?
As the intro about the song list and the band roll, my husband goes, "I just thought about the best name for the 'Idol' band -- 'Idol Hands'" and then he laughed really hard. *sigh*
Up first is Paul Jolley, who is having some serious nerves. He is also wearing a lot of white and makes an interesting song choice -- "Blown Away," by Carrie Underwood. Huh. It's a little Broadway for our taste. Nicki Minaj is sporting an enormous wig, hat and sunglasses. Is she hungover?
Lazaro Arbos does "The Edge of Glory." So apparently Gaga is universal, 'cause he sounded like he knew that one. Curtis Finch does "Jar of Hearts" and he sounds good, but he too is a bit theatrical with it.

It's been a long and sometimes tear-filled journey for the men of American Idol. They've survived auditions, sudden death eliminations, Group Rounds, and tonight they'll sing their final solo number for the judges.
Who will be left standing? Let's find out now...
Cuts will be made after every 8th performance.
Leading off the solo round is Paul Jolley who's quite nervous. So nervous he nearly cries before he can even sing and Mariah has to remind him to breathe. He's not able to overcome his nerves and Nicki calls his lack of confidence a "turn off" and unprofessional.
Lazaro Arbos is the second to sing and chooses Lady Gaga's "Edge of Glory." Curtis Finch, Jr., sings "Jar of Hearts" and his theatrics distract from what could be an otherwise interesting arrangement of the number.
From the first group, Lazaro, Paul, and Curtis all move on. We might only be...

If God is an American Idol fan — and that’s a big “if,” considering where Jennifer Hudson, Ricky Braddy and Pia Toscano have finished over the years — then perhaps Nicki Minaj is the insane, mumbly-mouthed angel sent (ejected?) from above, here to drop harsh truths and a wacky kind of honesty that have been missing from the show for far too long.
Certainly, Nicki’s anti-sob story, pro-weirdness, “give us one minute of professionalism” stance injected much-needed energy into Night 2 of Season 12′s gender-segregated Hollywood Week, following a Wednesday night telecast that all too often blared like a giant neon sign proclaiming,...

Nicki Minaj would prefer to go down with the ship than to walk down the Queen Mary's gangplank in her enormous platform heels. At least that's the impression we got when the fire alarm went off and Nicki just sat there rolling her eyes until Nigel Lythgoe himself told her to scoot.
The excitement all started when 16-year old Jesaiah Baer started singing Kimbra's "Settle Down" and the docked cruise ship's fire alarm went off, forcing the logistical nightmare of a mandatory evacuation of a thousand American Idol hopefuls, and Nicki.

American Idol doesn’t get everything right all the time, but let’s give the lumbering old beast a round of applause — or as J.Lo likes to call it, a standing ovation — for trimming back the Season 12 auditions to a succinct, three-week affair.
If I’m being completely honest, the sometimes uninspiring Golden Ticket recipients from tonight’s two-city, two-hour extravaganza had me wondering if maybe Nigel Lythgoe & Co. should’ve considered additional cuts. But ultimately, the episode was not without its charms: “The great Randy Jackson” ridiculing Shubha Vedula’s name in front of a national TV audience...

Matheus Fernandes Audition
Vincent Powell is a returning contestant. He, like so many others, is in love with Mariah Carey. Like so many others, he's talented. He's churchy and gets a "Thank you, Jesus" from Randy. The judges love him and he's going back to Hollywood.
(Not) Dynamic duo Derek and David Bacerott get "the whole thing was terrible" and "I'm trying to save your lives, here" from Randy. They get "we're trying to save our futures.

As James Hibberd reported earlier today, The Glee Project has been officially confirmed for season 2. EW was on the scene when season 1 co-winner Damian McGinty and Glee Project creator Robert Ulrich (who’s also Glee’s casting director) brought the audition to New York City. While McGinty shared some behind-the-scenes scoop about what’s it’s like on the other side of the camera, Ulrich shared the secret ingredient to Glee Project success. “It isn’t just about the voice by any means,” he said. “It’s about being accessible, having that certain ‘it’ factor, and being able to fit into that Glee world.

Marissa von Bleicken was sent home from The Glee Project after a week of highs and lows. She won her second straight Homework Challenge when Max Adler, Glee's Dave Karofksy, picked hers as the best display of tenacity during the group's performance of La Roux's "Bulletporoof." Then she got one-on-one time with the actor and a featured role in the video of the "Under Pressure"/"Ice, Ice Baby" mash-up. But her inability to retain her spark while being submerged in cup after cup a frozen slushies landed her in the bottom three. And when her biggest competitor Alex came out in drag and sang "I'm not Going" from Dreamgirls like nobody's business, her chance of staying slipped away. Her are a few thoughts from Marissa from a recent conference call interview on who she wants to win, if she regrets telling Nikki she didn...

Each week HuffPost Celebrity will be chatting with eliminated contestants from Oxygen's new show, "The Glee Project," a reality series with a 7-episode arc on the hit show "Glee" on the line. We talked with Matheus Fernandes -- the 4’9” Atlanta singer eliminated on the Duets episode -- about his audition process and all the drama with duet partner Alex.
How did you end up on the show?
I actually auditioned on MySpace and never got called back on that actually, but I heard about an open casting call and I took a bus all the way from Atlanta to Texas 22 hours to audition.
The show this week was pretty dramatic, what do you think looking back on the whole situation between you and Alex leading up to your elimination?
I love Alex, during the competition I really liked him and loved everybody there. We made up afterwards. I guess our...

On this week’s episode of Oxygen’s The Glee Project, viewers said goodbye to Matheus Fernandes. The 4’9” Atlanta singer was eliminated after a special duet final performance, during which he sang “The Lady is a Tramp” with fellow cast mate Damian. “When it comes down to it, it’s a competition and I struggled — I struggled with the song choices,” admits the 20 year-old. “I’m not used to singing Frank Sinatra. That fits Damian better and I’m happy for him.” EW talked to Matheus about his conflicts with Alex and what’s next.

Competing on Oxygen's hit series The Glee Project is no easy task- it can't be made any easier when everyone else on the show stands a lot taller than you do. But the smallest guy on the show turned out to be the kid with the biggest heart, which made seeing him go the toughest part of the competition for us. Luckily, Matheus Fernandes talked to Ology and made us feel a lot better.
