'Cbgb' Trailer Shows Humble Beginnings, Roaches, Ramones (Video)

The old Cbgb is now a John Varvatos store, and the club's notoriously rank toilet has been recreated in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Will "Cbgb" the movie do it more justice than modern-day NYC has?

The new trailer offers a look at Alan Rickman as the late Hilly Kristal, owner of Cbgb and booster of groundbreaking punk and new-wave bands like the Ramones, Blondie, and Patti Smith. In this first teaser, Kristal and his crew struggle to get the club off the ground, with Ashley Greene playing Lisa, Kristal's daughter (the real-life Lisa, now known as Lisa Kristal Burgman, is a co-producer), and Donal Logue showing up as Kristal's security dude Merv Ferguson.

We do get a little peek at the actors playing the famed musicians who rocked out at Cbgb. Malin Akerman appears briefly as Blondie, but two stars with some decent face time are Rupert Grint, who »

Cbgb Lands at XLrator Media

XLrator Media has acquired all U.S. distribution rights to the film Cbgb, a rock 'n roll true story of the legendary New York City club that launched dozens of top bands and is known globally as the home of American Punk Rock music. Cbgb tells the tale of the famed venue and its iconoclastic founder Hilly Kristal, portrayed by Alan Rickman (Harry Potter series) and directed by Randall Miller (Bottle Shock). The release of the much-buzzed-about film is timed to take advantage of the huge Cbgb Music Festival event this Fall and the current mainstream popularity of "Punk" in the media, art and fashion. The announcement was made today by XLrator Media CEO Barry Gordon.

The film will be released theatrically to coincide with the fast-growing Cbgb Music Festival, which takes New York City by storm October 9-13, 2013 with over 500 bands performing on 175 stages across the city including Times Square and Brooklyn's Barkley Center. »

Alan Rickman’s ‘Cbgb’ Picked Up By XLrator

XLrator Media has bought U.S. distribution rights to “Cbgb,” starring Alan Rickman as nightclub owner Hilly Kristal, the story of the influential New York music venue and its impact on the punk rock scene.

The film, directed by Randall Miller, will be released theatrically to coincide with the Cbgb Music Festival  in New York City on Oct. 9-13, with over 500 bands performing on 175 stages.

Cast includes Malin Akerman, Ashley Greene, Johnny Galecki, Rupert Grint and Justin Bartha. The film includes over 60 songs, including titles by the Talking Heads, The Ramones, Blondie, Patti Smith, Iggy Pop, The Police and The Dead Boys.

Cbgb” looks at New York’s punk rock scene through the lens of the Lower East Side club opened by Kristal in 1973 as a home for “country, bluegrass and blues,” from which the club’s name was derived.
