X-Men: Dark Phoenix to focus on its female characters

Last week we got our first look at X-Men: Dark Phoenix, the next – and possibly final, following Disney’s takeover of Fox – instalment of the X-Men franchise, and now we have some further details on the film thanks to writer-director Simon Kinberg, who has revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the movie will see a heavy focus on its female characters.

“I really wanted to acknowledge the strength of the women in the comic and in the actresses that we have and the central storyline demands it,” said Kinberg, with the outlet going on to note that “at one point, Mystique actually jokes to Charles that the group should be renamed the ‘X-Women’ due to how often the female characters save the male ones.”

Jean Grey actress Sophie Turner also elaborated on Kinberg’s comments, adding: “It’s really exciting. I think there’s such a revolution in superhero movies. I

Ready Player One author Ernest Cline is working on a sequel

Author Ernest Cline is set to hit continue on Ready Player One, with the writer revealing during a Facebook Livestream for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming movie adaptation of his cult novel that he is working on a sequel to the 2011 novel.

“It’s true,” said Cline when asked about the rumours that he was working on a follow-up book. “I can’t talk about it too much, but there’s no better inspiration for a writer [than] to return to a world they’ve already worked on when they’re watching Steven Spielberg bring that world to life.”

Cline went on to reveal that he’s been bouncing ideas of Spielberg, whose work on the sequel inspired him to return to the world of the Oasis.

"Ready Player" Whaaaaaat?

Chris here. Even with The Post coming to theatres this month, Spielberg's next next film is already trying to get a leg up on 2018. Yes, Ready Player One continues to botch its early promotional campaign after a much maligned first teaser and now a very eye-stretching poster. Remember a few months ago when Alicia Vikander's Lara Croft had that unfortunate neck? Well, it looks like Player's star Tye Sheridan got the same disorder in his legs.

By our rough estimate, the young actor's legs should be, oh, slightly longer than his entire abdomen. "A better reality awaits" - umm, by the looks of it... Tell us in the comments: what happened to Tye Sheridan's legs?

The ‘Ready Player One’ Book Is Getting A Sequel

One of the best literary reads, for me personally, was Ernest Cline’s throwback eighties sci-fi novel Ready Player One. I read the thing, pretty much on one sitting on a trip to Las Vegas earlier this year, and it has stayed with me ever since. Of course, I knew in the back of my mind that Steven Spielberg was directing the movie version, so that added extra weight, but the book is an absolute blast for us retro-freaks from start to finish, and still has an absorbing story on which everything can be bounced off. News today reaches us that a Ready Player One sequel novel is on the way, and no other than Steven Spielberg himself is reportedly working with Cline on it.

Spielberg isn’t directly involved with the writing, but Cline revealed on a Facebook live stream that

In this virtual society, known as Oasis, countless ’80s icons make appearances, from Pac-Man to Monty Python to Zork.

Beyond this, the story revolves around the fact that the creator of Oasis hid a special Easter Egg within the game, and whoever could find it would inherit his entire fortune and have control over Oasis. Obviously, a lot of people are after it, but there are also those who are desperate to make sure nothing messes with the running of Oasis, the in-game

Simon Kinberg on course correcting the X-Men series with Dark Phoenix, confirms Genosha

After more than a decade serving as writer and producer on 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise, Simon Kinberg now finds himself behind the camera for the latest chapter of the main series, X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

Earlier in the week we saw some first look images from the movie – Fox’s second attempt at adapting The Dark Phoenix Saga after the disappointing X-Men: The Last Stand – and now Kinberg has been chatting to EW about the movie, stating that he intends on course correcting the series after mistakes made with the previous chapter, X-Men: Apocalypse.

“I think we took our eye off what has always been the bedrock of the franchise which is these characters,” said Kinberg. It became about global destruction and visual effects over emotion and character… One of the things I went into this film wanting to do is obviously focus on the characters and give them
