Back in May we reported that there was a teaser trailer (Click Here)  for a film called The Woods, but we really didn't know anything about it until now!

Lionsgate dropped a surprise at this year's San Diego Comic-Con by revealing that Adam Wingard's upcoming horror film The Woods, is really a new, and previously secret, sequel to horror classic Th Blair Witch Project, titled, simply, Blair Witch.

EW got a chance to speak to  Wingard talked about the project:

The Woods was our working title. When we signed on to it, we knew that [the name] was eventually going to be changed. To us, it wasn’t even going to be part of the marketing. But I think Lionsgate made a really smart decision, using that.”

Adam Wingard’s ‘The Woods’ is actually called ‘Blair Witch’! Here’s the trailer

3 hours ago | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Lionsgate have done something really rather sneaky, Adam Wingard‘s The Woods was unveiled at Comic Con this weekend, but instead of being referred to as The Woods, it was actually presented as Blair Witch. That’s right, it’s back!

Blair Witch is a sequel to the groundbreaking 1999 movie The Blair Witch Project and will hit cinemas in September. Here’s the story, which has just been revealed too.

A group of college students venture into the Black Hills Forest in Maryland to uncover the mysteries surrounding the disappearance of James’ sister who many believe is connected to the legend of the Blair Witch. At first the group is hopeful, especially when a pair of locals offer to act as guides through the dark and winding woods, but as the endless night wears on, the group is visited by a menacing presence.  Slowly, they begin to realize the legend »

Coming Distractions: Comic-Con screening reveals Adam Wingard’s The Woods is actually a secret Blair Witch sequel

5 hours ago | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

The original The Blair Witch Project was a triumph of marketing as much as anything else. So consider it a tribute that The Guest director Adam Wingard pulled off a legitimately great piece of misdirection tonight, when a Comic-Con screening revealed that his previously teased backwoods monster thriller The Woods was, in fact, a sequel to the 1999 horror phenomenon, titled simply Blair Witch.

The trailer for the movie shows James Allen McCune as the supposed brother of the original movie’s ill-fated Heather, going off on his own found-footage adventure with his own crew of largely unlikable friends. (At least handheld camera technology seems to have gotten less relentlessly unpleasant in the last 17 years.) Blair Witch definitely looks more overtly supernatural than the original, what with all the barely seen creatures running around in the woods. Hopefully it’ll be able to avoid the over-the-top excess that made ...

The Woods Trailer Promises the Scariest Movie of the Year

11 May 2016 4:19 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Every year there seems to be one horror film that can rise above the endless stream of low budget, middle of the road, run of the mill horror flicks that studios push out constantly and this year, Adam Wingard's The Woods looks to be that film, and the first teaser trailer for the film has dropped, and it is promising "a new beginning for horror films." A bold statement, sure. But the critical praise for the film that the first half of the trailer focuses on seems to back that up.

Though details of the film have largely been kept under wrap, the Lionsgate production is said to feature a group of college students who go out camping in the wilderness and discover that they aren't alone, which is what the trailer heavily teases. Wingard has already made a name for himself in the horror genre in recent years, »

First Trailer for New Horror Thriller 'The Woods' From Adam Wingard

10 May 2016 3:33 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"A nightmare of classic proportions." Lionsgate has released the first trailer for Adam Wingard & Simon Barrett's new horror thriller The Woods, with a quote from Brad Miska saying its one of the "scariest movies ever made". The film is about a group of college students on a camping trip that discover they are not alone. This is supposed to introduce a new creepy horror character, which you'll barely get a glimpse of in this footage if you look close. The cast includes James Allen McCune, Callie Hernandez, Brandon Scott, Valorie Curry, Corbin Reid, and Wes Robinson. This could actually be pretty good, as these two filmmakers are fantastic and always deliver. I do want to see more from this, but I'm intrigued already. Here's the first official trailer for Adam Wingard & Simon Barrett's The Woods, direct from YouTube: The story involves a group of college students on a »

The Woods Beckon In Haunting First Trailer For Adam Wingard’s Horror

10 May 2016 1:42 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Set against a spine-chilling, almost melancholic rendition of “Every Breath You Take,” Lionsgate has premiered the haunting first trailer for The Woods, an all-new horror thriller hatched by the creative minds behind The Guest and You’re Next.

That’s Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett, who looked to have cooked up the camping trip from hell in today’s first teaser. Opening with serene establishing shots of the great outdoors, the tension gradually begins to build and build until we are introduced to a “group of college students on a camping trip who discover they are not alone.”

Hardly a horror premise to reinvent the wheel, of course, but the terrifying imagery that follows – not to mention those gruesome Pov shots – is enough to fuel nightmares right up until the movie’s September debut. Toss in some admittedly hyperbolic review quotes and there’s every chance The Woods could »
