Cody Bursch was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and grew up in Golden
Valley. His parents are Brian and Carol Bursch. He has two siblings; an
older sister, Elena, and a younger brother, Nathan. He attended Hopkins
High School in which he was a fervent actor (appearing in roles such as
Malvolio, Proteus and the Lion from the Wizard of Oz) under the
direction of Mark Hauck. He was also heavily involved with a young
actor community theatre company called Blue Water under the direction
of Charlie Leonard, Katie Fischer, and Kirsten Hoiseth Thayer. There he
had the opportunity to play Sweeney Todd, Prince Charming, Fagin, and
in his senior year in a production of Romeo & Juliet directed by
Becka Thompson he played Romeo for his second
time after having first played him 4 years ago in 9th grade. He also
began writing music in the 7th grade, having a couple of his own works
performed by his high school orchestras in both 9th and 10th grade. He
scored his first feature length film in his junior year of high school.
Cody realized he wanted to be a film score composer after obsessively
listening to film scores by Hans Zimmer and
James Newton Howard. As of 2011, he
attends Chapman University in Orange, California and is majoring in
Music Theory & Composition.
